they make kitchen hoods with remote fans. i installed the fan from one in the ceiling, venting through the roof, and use an 8" flexible duct to move the suction to where i'm doing powder or something causing fumes (soldering stained glass panels, for instance). they are very quiet.

why can't you just do a full fire? that would also remove the scratch. you may need to dam it if it's thicker than 1/4" so it doesn't spread, but the colors won't move like they would have if it was still in pieces.

a lot of crushed glass gets powdered, and either sent back into the glass furnace, or included in things like road asphalt. in either case, the coe doesn't matter.

in a reducing atmosphere, the glazes want oxygen. if there's little to none in the air, then it's going to come from somewhere. there's an oxide on the elements, which then gives up it's O to get pulled into the glaze. the oxide protects the outside of the element, and if it's not there or thinner, ...

as a guess: heatup was way too quickly. the temp under the middle part was a lot less (because of insulation of the fiber paper, the air under the steel, etc) than the temp of the glass on the sides. it cracked in the middle, slid or blew apart, and then the rest of the heatup to slumping temps form...

cutting metal will gum up a diamond saw.

uhmw (ultra high molecular weight) plastic is pretty much the same as a plastic cutting board, a soft-ish type material.

i went to an aquarium store and got a submersible pump. it was far cheaper (less than 1/2) than buying a replacement pump from either HD (pond pump section) or tile saw replacement.

it will stand up, but it will shred and get lost in a casting unless you're using a LOT of it. most likely you'll see a few shards of it in the interior. you could place the dichro pieces on the outside surfaces and you'd see a lot more of it, although it will move downwards as it melts.

it really depends upon your usage. perhaps you want to put an hour meter on it, and change it every 5000 hours or so. someone who fires once/week wears them out quicker than one who fires 2x/day.

go to a lighting store and find one with a glass shape you can reproduce or make a mold for, and simply replace the glass with your art glass.

or move to a place without that nasty thing called humidity. i've never had to clean out my pressure pot, in about 10 years of using it with sometimes months between uses.
