Re: photo copying on to glass
BEP, Unfortunately I do not know of a way to get black print at home aside from screen printing. Check the books section on the home page of this site to find Jody Walker's excellent book regarding printmaking on glass. I believe it is on sale right now. Lots of ideas there.

What an incredible piece. The artistic tension between the ordered squares and the meandering lines is riveting.

Re: photo copying on to glass
Andrea, I use an HP laser jet printer. The "ink" needs to have a high iron content as that is what makes the nice sepia image when fired. I ordered the decal paper from Delphi and just followed the instructions. Hummm, I just looked for the instruction sheet and can't find it. Maybe there ...

Re: Need help with Creative Ceramics medium rectangle mold
Did you raise the mold slightly off the kiln shelf? Air leaving through the vent holes may have been trapped under the mold. When slumping I remove the shelf which is propped on one inch kiln posts and use those posts to support the mold. This assures adequate air flow under and around the mold plus...

Re: Mounting glass on metal
Thanks for the replies. The wood cleat is a great option if I think I may have to add a sawtooth with screws. I'd completely forgotten about wood as a choice. Easy to remove the sawtooth for permanent installation later. And the Hang Your Glass system is a method of choice if the gallery can accommo...

Mounting glass on metal
I have a 2 layer 5" X 16" fused piece that I want to mount on metal to provide a background that is a little larger than the glass. I plan to use some type of standoff to elevate the glass from the metal surface. So far so good. My question is how to attach some kind of hanger to the back....

Re: Tutorial - Harvest Moon Tile
Thanks, Dana. The result is so pretty and I think I must now have some luminescent glass. I hope you'll post a picture when you have fabricated a stand for this. Stands that enhance the piece are difficult challenges for me and I'd like to see what you do for this one.

Re: atmospheric
Beautiful pieces. I'm especially drawn to the second one with the warm browns. What is the color you used for the glowing atmosphere? It captures the late afternoon light that is sometimes found at the edge of a wooded area. Also, is that a lone wanderer I see on the path in the green one?

Re: Autumn of our Reign.
I absolutely love the texture, color, and flowing shape of the design. I am drawn to the base (love metal/rock) and find the nuts serve as exclamation points. Disruption in a good way.

Re: Doilies and fossil vitrae
It seems to me that if ferns and cedar branches work a paper doilie should be OK. There may be a bit of ash left behind but the imprint of the powder or enamel should not be affected.

Havi, The clear powder sifted over the wafer idea is from Bob Leatherbarrow's class. It has helped me preserve many delicate designs. Good luck!

Re: Problems with WAFERS
Have you tried sifting a layer of clear powder over your wafer design before you fire it? It helps hold it together without changing the color or effect.

So beautiful! The loose look on the fringe is so realistic and an excellent idea to do the etching on it.

Re: Beginner's fusing question
I always play it safe and fuse the two circles first then add elements to the top in a second firing. If the pre-fused elements are very large you may be adding enough extra mass to require a dam to restrict spreading of the circle. If you are just adding something like wafers, damming would not be ...

Re: La Londe's mold
Well, I'm encouraged again. I would have to have a smaller diameter as I only have about 9" max depth for an upright mold leaving a couple inches below elements. Thanks to all who have replied.

Re: La Londe's mold
Shawn, Valarie. I appreciate your replies and the fact that neither of you has used your mold tells me something. It also occurs to me that my kiln may not have enough volume to accommodate the original pattern. I think I'll make a small ceramic version and see how that works. I want to make a botan...

La Londe's mold
Has anyone made the fluted stainless steel mold Richard La Londe uses for his botanical pieces? I have the book and pattern but not the guts to make one and need to know if it as difficult as it seems. I think I would be more comfortable making it from clay but not sure I could achieve the relativel...

Custom stand
I made a landscape that turned out pretty well but felt like it needed something. I dug through my collection of granite discards and took an appropriate piece to a local blacksmith. A little collaboration and voila! Much better.
