Re: Primer Pulling Away from Shelf

I make my own wash. 8/2 alumina/ kaolin plus some cmc for green strength. Super easy to scrape off. I use 1/1 for molds.

Re: Primer Pulling Away from Shelf

Put a fresh coat or two of wash between firings. No need to prefire kiln wash.

Re: Shelf wash or paper?

you also need to kilnwash the shelf even if you use the paper. paper can fail if you have a hi temp misfire.

Re: Devit Problem with BE

i would lower your first hold to 1100f or a little less. or put in another step with a hold there. your first hold is high enough for the glass to be soft enough grabbing thinfire smutch before it has a chance to get out of the kiln. maybe prop the lid a quarter inch at first. or just use kiln wash.

Re: firing a new mold

huh. if the mold has been bisque fired. (those have) then it has been fired to above 1472. i can see no reason why doing like they said would do anything to the ceramic 'interior structures' or whatever. i just see no science behind that statement. cynthia m, you got a clue i am missing? r.

Re: Kiln wash won't stick to new ceramic mold

i would fire it to 1000f or just put it in with whatever firing you do next. if that does not help then what you have is a result of how the mold was poured. the clay can be compressed in an area and less able to easily hold kw.
