Re: Getting help.

Very well done. I like the setting a lot myself, I'm still having trouble with the elitist institutions, and I think the materials in the m b shop relate well. The steel mounted I find the most interesting, but that maybe a hangup against the aussie "branding. Hope you do well with the "bu...

Re: Getting help.

I've had a copy from the littletoncollection with me and a hand pressed print I made but the relevant experts never had the time to look. DUH.. Went back, thanks for the link again and it was different so I've both copies, another example and more receptive printmakers to talk to at last. Haydo I ne...

Re: Getting help.

Good for you Haydo. Enjoy the exhibition , you've worked hard for it. A good chance you'll love the abstract painting too, depends on the teacher. Abstract or any drawing class has a lot of value. I've just finished another painting, 5 now, all different styles, and I'm busting with excitment. Doing...

Re: How to Tell Good Art from Bad?

Interesting , as I'm studying, and at the stage, again, of thinking about what makes up my arts practice.. Best take on looking at art is a short one and I cant remember where I found it. What is the artist trying to achieve ? Do they achieve it ? Was it worth doing ? the big one. Ben Shahn put out ...

Re: New colour for bubble.

Now if farmers could produce square eggs think of the money saving in packaging.
The size really puts it differently. And I like the title/idea. I'm coming to accept that people will always have their own truths.
Good luck with it, and enjoy the time in action.

Re: buying glass

Yes, it is a very small market so there's not much competition, or sales for those companies anyway. We've about the same land area as the US and 1/10 the population so freight around the country is steep too. Try http://www.axessglass.com/About/Location.aspx who are in Broadmeadows, north of melbou...

Thanks Brock.
Impressive filming too.
We've got plenty of sand outback, pity we used to be well up on technology.

Re: 3D printing with glass powder

Question is, when did the new title of designer take over from the artist, as the person who designed the factory produced products? Is the line in the sand drawn in competitions or training? This comment on a blog re the ranamok glass prize in australia. absolutely breathtaking. She won a couple of...

Re: Polishing with a sandblaster

Hi Cynthia. My first try with the little gravity fed pot was in the back yard. The dust is harmless. You've got summer over there, and we've seen pic's of the bad forest fires. As we learnt, when you get extreme temps and winds you can get superfires that move faster and hotter than what we were use...

Re: Polishing with a sandblaster

Rick. Some things I found. Soda wont cut into untouched glass, the ?skin needs to be broken. That said its main benefit is smoothing or semi polish, and you dont need to mask the untouched glass. It packs down into the pressure pot, so some pros have a rocking/shaking mechanism. I'm trying a pipe wi...

For anyone in the US who's read Shaun McNiff, Trust the Process. Haydo has worked it out himself, and hit the hammer on the head.

Re: Sandstone disc for flat lap?

Yes Jen, the big wheel was mild steel and showed a fair amount of rust. A quick wipe with a pot scrubber cleaned it. Cleaning between different grits is a hassle. Nearly worth a few seperate plates. My potters wheel has pins pointing up to hold the batts. Pins going down would be a bit trickier, but...

Re: Sandstone disc for flat lap?

I've put a 13 inch steel plate, 6 mm thick onto my pottery wheel. Drilled holes for the centre and drive pins. Bought diaamond wheels from His. Goes great. I used an old steel lap, about 24 inch, with loose grits. You put grit and water in the centre and it works its way out. A beautiful singing noi...

Re: Polishing with a sandblaster

Have you tried the soda yet Cynthia ?
I've tried the range of grits, to pumice and cerium. Very messy and not successful.
Soda worked a lot better than 400 or 600s/c. especially after a SiC 200 blast.
Who else has tried soda?

I thought we did. Congrats. And as I saw on a recent post, just 'cause there are 8 steps or 16, you don't have to use them all.
