Re: Price of/for findings...

Thanks so much for all the info. It really helps me put things in perspective. I do think that the handmade silver bail is part of my design on some of the pieces, but it really does up the cost quite a bit - kinda of need to use a silver chain with it. I guess I could still sell it with something e...

Re: Price of/for findings...

Thank you very much for your informative reply. I did check check etsy, as you mentioned. It does seem that the best way may very well be to use the $1 cords or ribbons. Unless I buy in very large numbers, I don't think I could recoup my costs.

Price of/for findings...

I have recently made some jewelry out of some pattern bar left overs. Gave a few pieces to friends and family and it has gone over quite well. My question is; do you charge a 50% mark-up on the findings, such as sterling chains or 100%? No idea since I've really never sold any jewelry before. Any he...

Re: documentation/record keeping

Hmmm...same for me. I updated my adobe as well, but still can't get it to load. I use a mac, though wouldn't think that would be an issue. Really would like to see your file, as I try to keep good records, but I do mine on paper. Would love to transfer them to the computer! Thanks!

Re: Menorah candle cups

Cheryl, Thanks. I know exactly what you mean by the threaded rods (now!). I think I was having a brain fart. I do have some great glass to metal glue that I used for a kitchen hardware to glass commission. It was an epoxy of some sort, I think Devcon. It worked great! I'll order the cups from Weiss.

Menorah candle cups

I searched the old posts, and it seems Weiss is the best place to get menorah candle cups. What I'm not sure about is the best way to attach them to the menorah...I saw one recent post that mentioned forcing a threaded rod through the hole at the bottom of the cup, but I have no idea where to get a ...

Re: Where can I find this?

Yes. Simple, modern clean and doesn't take away from the art at all. That what I really like about it.

Re: Where can I find this?

It's actually a photo of a menorah a friend just brought back from Israel, and I have no idea who the artist is - I certainly would have given credit if I new who did such a beautiful piece of work. S.T. - I'm interested in the base of the menorah. Can't seem to find anything like it. Thanks, though!

Where can I find this?

I absolutely LOVE this base! I've seen it on other semi/circular/rectangular projects and would love to find out where to obtain them. I thought they were hand crafted, but I have seen the same one on several different artists' work. Sure would appreciate anyone pointing me in the right direction! s...

Re: Weiss Judaica

I'm looking at buying Menorah candle cups (silver colored, probably aluminum and very affordable) from Weiss Judaica. Has anyone had experience with the company? I tried Rite Lite, but saw only brass (and a much higher price). I placed this here because the employee of Weiss said the hole on the bo...

Re: Ever seen THIS before?

So do I vent at 1000,or lower? How long do I vent for?

I'm sending a piece of metal to my son- a phd candidate chemist -to test. That should finally answer some questions.

Re: Ever seen THIS before?

Nope, nothing under the shelf. I had taken it out to do the setup. I did another test with clear scrap, and all seems okay now. Whew! Thanks again to ALL for you help! Nothing else in my kiln unless I know exactly what it is - although I thought I knew what this was :-k Think I'll pre-fire EVERYTHIN...

Re: Ever seen THIS before?

Did a test fire with scrap and there was absolutely no scum or even a trace of devit on the piece! Yeah! It did seem to be a little darker than the other pieces that I have made with the same color...strange. I used a transparent medium/dark blue. Don't have any reactives to try. Perhaps I should th...

Re: Ever seen THIS before?

I'll do a test fire today. What a mess/stress this has been! I have a ceramic shop nearby, but not a pottery supply. Think they'll have it? Honestly don't know what I'd do without this board and all the wonderful people and massive amount of knowledge base (and the generosity to share it) everyone h...

Re: Ever seen THIS before?

No, no odor at all. It cleaned out very well, but now that there may be a possibility of damage to my heating elements, I'm afraid to turn it on! From all I've read (and seen) it really seems like it is a chemical reaction. My son is a research chemist, and I sent him photos and he thinks that as we...

Re: Ever seen THIS before?

I cleaned it out, and all the junk came out okay. It mostly brushed and hoovered out. I don't know what bentonite clay powder is or where I can get it. Can you please advise?

Thanks so much for all the help on this everyone!!

Re: Ever seen THIS before?

Did not use tap water. I've used that same batch of borax spray several times. No problems. And you are right, in many places it does look rather crystalized. I've been away from home all day, just got back and about get on with cleaning out my kiln - ugh! Can't believe what a mess is in there. If I...
