Re: what would happen if

I have done a lot of "heap melt". Stacking a pile of scrap on the shelf - without dams - and let it melt to an irregular puddle. http://lauri.lsd.dk/lasi/galleries/lauri/kierratys.php In those works I have used punty pint from glass blowers. They are thumb size bits of clear glass with som...

Re: Chart for temperature + time = same results

Warren writes what is pretty close how I think. You can make a controlled series of experiments and produce a curve of heat work. With better equipment and more scientific rigor you may end up with a formula temperature vs viscosity. That may get a bit closer. There remains one open question *how th...

I think there is one MUST. That is ease of navigation. Net readers have no perseverance. If I do not see it here and now, I try elsewhere. -lauri edit: My site is some 300 page tutorial (mainly in Finnish). The most comprehensive tutorial in our language. Re: full fuse disaster

I recently fired an 8"x12" single layer of spectrum 96 glass using the tack fuse preset on my kiln. I have used this setting many times without a problem. When I removed it from the kiln [1] it had broken into 3 pieces. [2] I then placed the three pieces onto a 96 clear sheet, filled in t...

Re: Using Photo Fusing Paper for the first time

Someone provided a simple test.
before risking decal paper, test print on ordinary paper.
Set it in fire. If the ink stays during burning, it stays also i the kiln.

Re: Iridised glass which way up

The question : should i treat the unfused glass that will be the woven glass as 3mm or should i treat it as 15mm as this is the height of the top of the bends to the bottom The reason why thick glass has longer times is simple. It takes time when the heat traverse a longer distance within the glass...

Re: Glass separation

I do not think COE changes with years. I have suffered recently of temporary incompatibility . The piece had a large base of Tekta. On top was fused a 4x7" oval of 1808 light sky blue tint. The blue absorbed readily the low infrared around 450 C (=ca850 F) while Tekta lets it go trough. The hav...

Re: slumping molds

Isn't it easier to take a plaster master mold and model a new clay mold with it?
That way you can eat and save your plate.

White decal or other images

I have a project where I need a few copies of a white dove fused on/between clear. The spread wings have fine details. something like this http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2zwNWOMnTEs/TyqtYhQBw2I/AAAAAAAAFDQ/vl_u5gSJG-Y/s1600/white-dove.JPG Of course I will use my own design variant. Etching on Tekta did n...

Re: Arranging glass on shelf

To test your inks
print on normal printing paper.
Lit the paper i the air.
Look thr script, if it is visible when the paper turns to ash, the ink will stau in the kiln, too.

Re: Whaddya think happened to this?

As I mentioned, the black is softer than the whitw.
In addition the black absorbs more radiation, while the white reflects.
So the white snowman kept the center of base glass cooler and thus increased the stress.

Re: Whaddya think happened to this?

The answers above I trust. In addition I made an interesting observation. The shock was strong, moving the base glass apart. It seems to me that it happened at the upper range of initial warm up. As I understand your picture, the head was not yet fused, and slid into the break. The arms were fused a...

The only way I have re-used fiber paper is to put it in a blender. The pulp I use to strengthen plaster molds, like chopped glas fiber is recommneded.

Re: Limit timer for kiln

here, Far North where I live, we use to pre-warm the car before using it. For that purpose the car equipment stores and electrical stores provide a simple timer. It sits between the outlet and plug. It has a 24 hour clock and with small tabs you mark when the current is permitted. You may even provi...

Annealing wood ?

Once I watched a "chain saw artist" work. He made quite intricate things. His material was fresh spruce. When wood dries, it tends to split. His solution was to work in batches. Between sessions he covered the wood with glue. I compare it to annealing. Sealing the recently worked surface, ...

I have also used 3M contact glue spray. It is easy to lay patterns on when it is sticky. Burns beautifully off.
