Compatibility Shift

I was recently working on a piece about an inch thick and 17 by 17 inches in size. The glass used was Bullseye opaque white (sheet and stringers), 0013, along with light neo-lavender shift and crystal clear. On the third firing I experienced a dramatic shift in compatibility by the opaque white. The...

Sealing Agents

I am in the process of a fairly comprehensive testing of several dozen different sealers for the use on sandblasted objects. If anyone has a favorite that they are willing to share, I would love to include it in the testing process. I will be happy to share the results when complete. Thanks, Tim

Re: Hang your Glass glue

Bert, I've been using Nano470 for glass to glass. It bonds incredibly strong and cures under fluorescent light. It is quite pricey however. They are based in the UK and used to have a distributor in California. The initial bond sets in about 5 minutes with full strength in 24 hours. I've not used it...

Facebook....The only place you can see someone asking advice on how to program their kiln, then talking about teaching a class next week....

Re: Silence

I have followed Warm Glass for years and could pretty consistently count on finding good advice from people who really know glass. I am very familiar with the Facebook groups, however there is a significant difference in that everyone that has been working with glass for a couple months feels like t...

Re: Venting my studio

For heat and fumes, I put in a whole house fan in the ceiling. It exchanges the air in the studio in about 5 minutes. For my blasting/coldworking room, I have an additional wall mount exhaust fan. Both are from www.NorthernTool.com.

Usually once I figure out howm much money and time it's going to cost to try and save a shelf, I end up buying a new one for about the same and cut up the old one for dams....

Re: Calculating amount of glass for a casting by weight of c

Clays can vary a bit, but when using the low fire clay that I use, it is weight of clay X 1.40 equals glass weight. There are others here who use clay much more than I do, so they may have some additional calculations that they use. Tim

I would call the finish semi-matte. They were blasted, then slumped to a temp where the shine just barely starts to come back. Tim

Blankets X 2

I've been fortunate enough to have some interest in my blankets, so I've made a couple more. I think that the blue and gray may be my favorite so far.

Re: 10" Wet Tile Saw

I have two 10 inch tile saws. One is a QEP, very expensive, the other is from Harbor Freight, very inexpensive. I find that the Harbor Freight cuts just as well as the expensive saw if using a good blade. It hs plenty of power and the water delivery is good. The only downside is the table itself. Th...

Re: Re-phrased Paragon kiln question

I have a Paragon GL24ADTSD which is a front loader, but does not do the higher temps as does the Janus24. It was my first larger kiln and still is my favorite. Lots of room, easy to load and easy to peek. The down side is that you cannot easily build in the kiln. I use my top loader for that. All of...

Re: Blanket

Bob, I didn't really keep track of the time involved, but it has a thousand or so pieces. It took 4 trips in the kiln. Havi, "Recovered" was what it felt like after the last piece I was working on never really came together the way I wanted it to. I like this one much better. Thanks everyo...
