Check out Golden flow studios, don't have the bookmark handy. It could also be Flaming Thumb. Neat design, and efficient. But I'm not sure what (blowing casting etc) you are doing, maybe I missed it in the thread.

An idea for securing the bell overhead. If it's winched up, add 2 more chains (one on each side) with hooks on the ends. Then adjust them so the hooks connect under the bell. That will stop the bell from falling if the winch fails. You might want to pad the chain, or use straps instead. But a good i...

I was hoping someone would pop up and tell us why my harebrained idea wouldn't work. I think your application (backing the latex) would be ideal. IT doesn't require any detail, does not heat up, and would be removable. I've often wondered how people back up the thin latex, to fill the mold with anyt...

An option I just now thought of. Depending on the level of detail, Spray foam (Great stuff). Place a layer of cellophane between the mold and the foam, fill the mold with the foam, let set, remove foam positive, make more plaster (whatever) negatives. Cheap and easy, but maybe not for every applicat...

Just a jaded, cynical, possibly crass piece of advice. As much as it might be fun to play with the sconces, deliver them last. Why? If the customer is a pain, you could lose the whole job, because of a risky small sconce. Things have happened. These clients are probably wonderful people and would NE...

Phoenix wire cutter
Somewhere in my few memory cells, I remember reading about something called a wire cutter. I imagined it as a kind of band saw for glass. Or maybe a jewelers saw. Can anyone help my addled brain? Or if I'm completely off base, I want to cut through / pierce a sheet of glass. A sandblaster wouldn't g...

just because I'm feeling verbose; Armor All. I had never heard of it's use in glass until a few weeks ago. But I had some glued together castings, that would never see a gallery, so I tried it. A very sexy surface. All the detail, none of the frosty bits that can come from the mold. Rationalization:...

The other issue with gas, is temp control. There are digtal conrtoller for gas, on the market, but once you start going there, it gets almost as expensive as electric. Though with my huge ego, and clay experience, I keep thinking I could build one. Bag walls, downdraft, you can hear the gears clashi...

FYI OTC glues
HEre's something I have learned. Loctite Glass Adhesive; Red syinge, $3.77 at Home Depot (wait for it) Optically clear i.e. if you glue a piece together, the refraction from the crack disappears. Super Glue Glass Adhesive: Red syringe, $2.77 At Home depot, NOT optically clear, crack refraction remai...

You didn't mention if it would be a cast piece. I quizzed a few people on that topic a while ago. Basically it is as follows: No dark colors, or not mixed; the darker colors abosrb more light = heat= expansion = possible checking. Ideal; Boro , because of the low expansion. I'll think of more of it ...

GAS Where and when?
I'll be there, but it'll be my first time. Where and when are "we" going to get together?

As to work, and photos of work, I think you are right morally, if not legally. As to names on a resume, a story: On NPR I heard an interview about the PA miners' story being made into a TV movie. It turns out that Public facts (miners in cave/rescued) (I took this class) are fair game, whether the p...
