I'll try the paint as Kevin suggested, maybe like my recent wood stain effort, painters oil paint mixed with gum turps, apply and wipe back....

Kiln is rewired, experiments starting. I've noticed that after sandblasting, the glass is susceptible to staining, from lots of things, some of it seems permanent even without firing. Thinking of trying copper sulphate, that puts greenish tinge on bronze castings, or rust in a solvent of some type. ...

Problem I have is I can't get the old greasy carbon paper, modern stuff won't "write" on these. I use cd pens or permanent markers or wax pencils, but would like a proper carbon type. Paid a lot for some flimsy yellow. Good luck Jen.

If you have a tiny whitish spot after using a 220 grit burr. I found those rubberised polishing burrs messy, and hard to keep to a small spot. If you have a drill with a collet chuck, I love my foredom, you can use small wood or bamboo pieces in it with loose grit. 400 or finer then pumice or cerium...

I bought an old potters wheel, electric, and got a steel plate to fit. Magnetic diamond discs from His, 30 cm I think. Fantastic. Sure the discs could go faster, but I feel I have more control at a slower speed. Only part I miss of an old iron disc and grit is the magic singing sound.

I'll agree to all the above. Love a satin finish. Having used the etch cream and the sugar acid dip, I never want to go there again. I found with the cream, when I took the first wipe OK, but taking a second wipe the line where the two met or overlapped, stood out clearly. Happened in the dip also, ...

Definately save, beg or borrow for the foredom. You wont regret and you'll grow with it.

Books from Ruth and Norm (dec) Dobbins are full of tech. info and pic's that make you bust to get going. Tony Smith and his site are full of good info. It's an incredibly versatile tool once you get adventurous, and lots of uncovered territory out there.

You could try tin oxide or tripoli, but I think they're like pumice, takes you so close you still need a tiny dazzle from cerium. cuts the amount down though.

I use plastic pipe and tap,aquarium supplies, from a small hanging bucket. Fencing wire bent and fixed to the bench,hose taped or wired on, bent to anywhere you want it to drip. I prefer big pot plant saucers under. Plastic less likely to scratch. With a cloth or the great plastic webby shelf liners...
