The Cracked Plate revisited
The end of last week I asked your advice on why my plate cracked after it was fused in the slumping firs. I took all of the advice and composed it into a better firing schedule. Fused a piece of clear to the back of the plate to hold the two pieces together. Fused it again. Success as in the fusing ...

Thanks everyone for the advice
Thanks for all the advice. In the future I am going to do what I think is right and not listen to Spectrum's firing schedule. I certainly will slow way down on the way up for the slump. I will come down a little slower and not pop the top until a little cooler. I might even add that second layer of ...

Plate Cracked While Slumping
My plate cracked during the slumping phase. I know this has been asked a number of times before but I thought I flowed a good firing schedule. I am giving you the glass used and the firing schedules. Glass was Spectrum 96 Opal 12 5/8 inch diameter base circle crescent measuring 2.75 wide at center a...

Bottle removed from kiln wall and shelf.
Hi, The bottle mess is over. :D Talk about relief. Here is how things set up. I had the shelf right under the pyrometer by about a 1/2 inch so if the bottle didn't break away from the side I was in trouble. The bottle managed to get itself attached to 3 sides of my 8 sided shelf. I know quite a feat...

Glass stuck to side of kiln
Here we go again. Earlier today I asked how to get the glass off my kiln shelf where the bottle ran over the side. I have a worse delima. The damn bottle not only migrated to the edge of the shelf but while folding over the shelf attached itself to the wall of my kiln. The kiln side is fire b...

Glass stuck on the kiln shelf
Well here I am again with a real mess. I tried slumping two bottles on the same shelf. I measured to make sure there was room for them to flatten before I closed the kiln very carefully. I opened it to flash vent when I found the mess. One of the bottles had flattened and run over the edge of the sh...

Using Steel Bars for molds
I have available to me different diameters and lengths of steel bars not SS. These bars would run from 2-6 inches in diameter and from about 1-6 inches in length. My question is can these be used succesfully to slump over? I am thining of laying a bar on its side and slumping over it to get a curve ...
