When is it 'glass' art?

This is not about art vs craft. My question is, when does glass art stop being glass art, or rather, what defines glass art? When should a piece stop being called 'glass' art and start being called something else? Like sculpture or multi-media? Does inclusion of glass, no matter the form (worked or ...

Oh, you want practical advice. If I were you, I would decide where I wanted to live and start house hunting in the area. As soon as you find a place, commit yourself to it. Go home and start packing and sell what you can't or don't want to take with you. When you get in your new home start making pr...

I never ventured into the corporate world. I was lucky enough to meet up with a guy who was self-employed in my early 20's. When I expressed a longing for a deal like his, his simple response was one of those times in my life when the light came on and the door opened. He said...Anybody can do it. I...

BE color reactions

Does anyone know if Bullseye transparent orange and transparent coral react to each other? Do the colors stay clean?

Okay, Ellen, let's get technical; exactly what is a De-Bubbleizer?
What he (Brad) said and Casper. It is soapy in nature. I don't know what brand we use either. The label is faded to the extreme and my tech man had a memory loss. Probably got it from a foundry supply.

Spritz your model with a de-bubblizer before pouring the plaster. It breaks the surface tension and allows the bubbles to rise up when you gently vibrate the mold mix after pouring and before it starts to harden. Also, if they are very small bumps, simply take a small diamond point and grind them of...

Only one time did a prospective job say to me 'so-and-so will do it for this much (less)'. I told him, sounds like a good price, go for it. We got the job at the price I quoted. This also works sometimes...if they hesitate because the price is too much for them, I tell them to let me know what they ...

Absolutely, ask for 50% up front. I do several composition sketches at no charge but do not give them to the client. When I present the sketches, they have to make a commitment then. 50% to do a finished design and begin production. I do present the finished design before starting the work and provi...

I get the whole recycling thing and it's supposed to create less trash and pollution. And if that's the purpose, go for it. There are other ways to recycle however (and I am an avid recycler). I just think that perhaps there is a better use for an artist's time and air polluting energy than destress...

Why bother? 1/4 annealed glass is cheap. You'll probably spend more money in electricity and time than you would just buying new annealed glass that won't have scratches in it.

I use Dymax glass to glass UV curing glue. It does not show if done properly ie you have to have complete coverage edge to edge. Loctite works well also (also UV curing). The key is complete coverage edge to edge. Any other technique will show as 'water marks'.

Amy's post disappeared so here it is quoted: This is a really interesting topic. My parents did not encourage artistic expression--they encouraged language, reading, and the pursuit of a certain type of education. I was an english major, did my independent studies on Shakespeare and Eugene O'Neill. ...

Every child is an artist, the problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up. --Pablo Picasso I read somewhere that every child decides at a certain age (I forget the age but pre-teen I think) that they can or cannot draw (ie be an artist) and if they decide they cannot/are not, they stop tryi...

I do a lot of laminating with UV glue. You have to develop a technique. Also I try to limit the sizes of the pieces. Send me an e-mail for my phone # and I will be happy to share info. It's just too long to sit down and type out.

My work is nature inspired also and the most common remark I get is that it is 'Art Nouveau', which it is not. Art Nouveau was very stylistic and even a bit abstract. Unfortunatley, most people associate anything nature inspired with Art Nouveau which is not considered contemporary.

I don't really view it as a demand or a requirement for personal interaction in order to buy the work. I've bought many pieces when I didn't know or meet the artist. It's a matter of simple courtesy to me. Someone gives you a compliment, you say thank you. To not do so, IMHO, exhibits rudeness or sn...
