Well I guess I should be looking for silver stain then... I wanted to use it on BE's French Vanilla and "draw" with a Kemper Pen.

Silver Lusters

Does anyone know if anyone makes silver luster? I have the Hanova gold, and would like to get some silver. Platinum won't work for the application I have in mind.

Thanks,
Amy

Hey Geri,

I would ramp up like you were saying, 100F/hr
When I do similar things I hold at 1050 for and hour then ramp to 1100 at say 200F/hr and soak for another hour.

You're going to want to watch it to make sure it shines up the way you want.

I have a QEP as well. I think the longest I've cut without turning the piece around is 19" I have model 60010 and it has a 2hp motor. I have cut shelves, glass, granite, jasper with it and it worked just fine.

I am very happy with it.

It is my understanding that you should be more concerned with you than your kiln when doing this. I have heard that it can drop you in a second. Be VARY careful and do much research before tring this. You might want to ask over on craftweb to get more information.

That was my point Charlie, that the belts wear out faster. If I would have bought the floor type I wouldn't have bought the diamond belts. It just really depends on how much you are going to use it.

I have the 3 x 41.5" Covington. Here is my observation. If you are going to be doing a fair amount of work with it I would suggest getting the bigger floor standing models. I use mine pretty much on a daily basis and ended up getting dimond belts for it because they last longer. Because of this...

You don't say if you are firing on fiber paper. If so you should vent the kiln until 1000F or so, like Brian said. The fumes from the burn out can fall back onto the glass if they are not vented. It looks like devit.

On the ss arch molds I've made I just use a hair dryer to dry the kiln wash. They are too big to be lifting in and out of the kiln all the time.

Right Charlie, we have and extra oven in our basement.

All we do to prep the metal is sandblast and wash the grit off.

That's where we got our stuff too. We use an oven to do the curing.

You also need a dust collection system too. We use a 5 gallon bucket with a drywall bag in it.

Just to add some more information.

My husband does this in our basement for car parts. He sprays the powder on in a spray booth, like Doug said. Then the powder has to cure in an oven. It's kinda like a low temp. enamel but very durable.

Valerie, Since you are casting in a steel ring you have to have the fiber paper. It works as a cushion so that the ring doesn't get trapped. It shrinks more than the glass. If you just want to fill the bubble holes I would just add clear frit and do a regular fuse. I have never re-done a high fire t...

Brock's right, I use many many coats and mix it like heavy cream. Do expect some sticking to the glass though. Sometimes I get a piece that doesn't stick, but most of the time it sticks and has to be cleaned off.

You got a lot going on here. First, I don't get the kiln wash and the layers of float thing. Can you try to explain this a bit better? Second, you should go read the tutorial on this website. That will answer many, many questions you have. Third, and finally, stacking shelves isn't always a good ide...

If it works out I can just go down and pick them up. I'm kinda looking for something inexpensive for so...

Wholesaler for Wrought Iron Table Bottoms

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a wholesaler for wrought iron table bottoms. I have done many searches on the web and haven't found anything, I figure I'm putting in the wrong key words or something.

Thanks for the help in advance.
