Re: Boron Nitride POWDER
Mix the powder with water to a cream consistency and paint it on like you would kiln wash.
I have used it on SS and clay fired stuff with good results.

Re: Drop with Dropring
No, Jan you didn't do anything wrong. That link was supposed to show you how to do a drop with only one firing. That post and the firing schedule were first posted by me, and I do not seem to find it either. I will look and see if I can find a link that works, and if I can. I will post it here. The ...

as long as the paper is not torn or disturbed and you can not see the kiln shelf, you can reuse it.

I also use an old electric tooth brush held onto the side of the mold.
This vibrates the powder and gets all of the excess water out.

Re: Glass/Cash Survey
Sometimes you are NOT charging enough. When I was doing shows, I ran into a situation than I was charging $4.00 for some coasters. One of the vendors told me to raise the price. I asked her "why" they are not selling now. Well I tried and raised the price to $9.00 and sold every one. Who k...

Re: Cracked during heat up
It does look to me that it is an incompatibly problem. Maybe some of the glass shifted in the combing cycle. I have had that happen to me before. There is a lot more than COE involved in the heating process. I suggest that you stick to the same manufacturer. I also suggest that you read the BE artic...

As long as you are having it built, why don't you have a switch installed so you can turn the bottom elements off?

If you have the means, then go all of the way through cerium oxide.
This will give you a surface that is equal to float glass.

Re: Fiber Kiln/Shelf
Bullseye sells ABSOLUTELY the flattest kiln shelf out there. Shipping cost might be a problem, but I think in the long run it would be worth it. Shelves from a ceramic supply store may or may not be absolutely flat. A flat shelf is really necessary for a lot of different kinds of firings. Just my $0...

Re: Silver foil & leaf
There is a product called "Tarnex" that works wonders.
Just dip the silver in and the tarnish comes off in about 1 or 2 seconds at the most.
Ten just immerse in hot water , pull out, let dry and you are good to go.
