Re: Bullseye Being Investigated by Oregon DEQ

I remember about 8 or 10? years ago Spectrum had to discontinue making it's red and orange (96) opal glass in Washington state under similar circumstances. The only red and orange 96 available after that was made by Urob. in Portland.

Re: Chads

Chads..the smaller, the better.. I use approx. a 2mm.(1/16") length of clear stringer right at edge. Only 1 req'd for fusing round discs. If you get them too big you'll see them after fusing. I grind and polish all my edges so it's not an issue.

Re: Help with devitrification

I never lift the lid to crash cool... it's hard on your kiln... and an invitation for trouble! Experience will allow you to create custom firing programs that will allow you to walk away once you've turned on kiln. I would suggest that you not fire 2 layer pieces and 6 layer pieces in same firing. Y...

Re: Kiln wash

It's easy!! Just take the kilnshelf outside and scrape it (dry) with the edge of a piece of glass... job will take under one minute!!.. don't need to prefire just dry in the sun. In colder weather I set fresh coated shelves and molds on top of kiln lid (with some spacers) when I'm firing something e...

Re: architectural glass mounting ... rubber/epoxy?

I'm thinking it might be a form of a material like Thiokol which is black and is/was used to install car windshields... flexible and very strong..

Re: Clear Shield Gel

I think Dick sums it up very well. This is a temporary fix...it's NOT archival!! Thanks Dick for your contribution.. It does not equate to patina on a bronze as Cynthia suggests.

Re: bubbles

We can't help you when we don't have your schedule and build-up. There was a recent poster who thought a bubble squeeze was simply holding at 1250F. Do you use chads?? do you slow down to 50F degrees per hour from 1100F up 1250F ... help us help you!

Re: melting frit to make a single piece of glass

I always find it easy to locate someone who wants leftovers for mosaics or suncatchers. All you have to say is "it's FREE" and it finds a new home fast!

Re: To pop or not?

In the future I would suggest you use a schedule that includes a bubble squeeze and add chads between layers! This will 100% eliminate your trapped air!

You will not be able to retain image definition or control with full fuse, It will appear more "cartoon" like. I don't think your client understands the process! I would advise against this attempt. #-o
