Re: Centering glass when draping
If you draw an equilateral triangle, with the base (inverted) being the distance between elements, the space below the point is where the heat evens out. So, any closer than that, and you must slow down to compensate for uneven heating. The quick calculation is to use a depth equal to the distance ...

Re: Test tile firing schedule
Adding another project to my list.
I've been trying to think of a good way to keep my sample tiles out and visable. I feel like I'm constantly digging through them and normally have about 1/3 of my work space covered by the ones I want to look at.
Valerie, I love the idea! Thank you for sharing it.

Thank you so much, that is super helpful. She had not considered what shapes might be most successful.
She has the whole summer to work out the process.

Plaster mold, 1st time questions
My daughter would like to include something made from glass in her 3-d AP art portfolio. We have been reading here but still have a few questions. So to practice she wants to start simple. She wants to make a small piece, maybe 5x5x3. She will model a positive out of clay. Put it in a cardboard box ...

Re: Mica Powders
Thanks Bert, that clears some things up. I may start a new thread to ask more questions, I don't want to keep hijacking this thread.
When you use a flux with mica, what do you use?
The dry ferro type or something like "Spray A"?

I'd love the full list of colors you tested. I'm most interested in the TKB colors as that is what I have the most of. I'm curious about the small vs large micron sized whites. I have a list of tkb mica colors that shows which colorants are used, I edited out anything that could possibly be hazardou...

Re: Fern Leaf Fusing
I should add, my husband and I have experimented with several ways to get a leaf look. Glassline paints applied with a fine paintbrush, or with a needle tip bottle, did not produce super clean lines, although this was in part due to uneven application. Glassline paint applied to a deep cut rubber st...

Re: Fern Leaf Fusing
I have one somewhere not quite finished, if it turns up I'll post a photo. I learned the method directly from the writer of the tutorial. If you use a lighter opal (I used French Vanilla) and really get the powder application thick and even it will be just as vivid as the photo above. The powder you...

Re: Microwave kilns
With the triangle shape the hearts look like they are closer to the edges. If so, this is making it easier (faster) for the air to escape.
That is my best guess.
A microwave kiln was my gateway kiln. They don't seem to like anything that involves frits or powders.

Thanks to all. I also found a video on BE https://www.bullseyeglass.com/education/lessons/on-edge-strip-construction-165.html Steve Immerman's work is so precise....and beautiful. Susan His stuff is just beautiful. I love the precision. I wish he would teach, but I guess he might be kind of busy wi...

Thanks to Jennifer, you did a nice job putting the how to's together! I really like the photos at the top.
I have a question on #26 is all the color in the top layer from the Dense White/ French Vanilla reaction? Is that where the blue in the stenciled pattern is coming from?

Re: Easier fold-over pendants
I know about fold-over pendants, but I just can't "catch the vision" of how to do those with a grill rack. I guess I'm challenged :) Dana W. I think I may have spent way too long thinking about that same thing. I looked at where the fiber was in the picture of the rack and assumed that wa...

Re: Glazura A/ spray A
I have never used it, but my understanding is Spray A or other overglazes will stick badly if in contact with the shelf wash or any fiber paper.
They are wet and will sink in.

Re: Inclusions
I'm interested in fusing inclusions into my glass, but it's unclear to me whether it can be done in COE 96 or COE 90 glass. Everything I read about regarding inclusions, suggests using float glass. Does that mean float glass is all I can use with inclusions? I want to add aluminum tooling foil and ...

Excellent, thank you.
EPK is wonderful stuff, I hope there is a good supply!
Where do you get finely ground alumina? My pottery supply doesn't even specify a mesh.
