Re: MESH MELT DISASTER
Hi Havi, I can really empathize with you on this as I had a similar disaster with my first wire melt attempt. The set up I use now is very similar to Jim's, although mine uses SS wire mesh that is made up of interlocking wire that creates square openings. I can't comment on whether the sagging you e...

Upon the Mere - A New Bowl
I'm still exploring combining my combings with other warm glass techniques. At the suggestion of a new friend, I eliminated the contrasting rim for this piece. This change, and learning to work with S96 Ivory Opal, made it necessary to once again alter my slumping schedule! Thank you Cynthia for you...

Re: MESH MELT
Hi Havi, I use stainless steel 1" x 1" mesh that is made from .063 diameter wire. I had the mesh welded to a 10" x 10" x 1" stainless steel frame to create a flat mesh-bottomed box. Even though this is a pretty stout set up, over time the wire sags during firing from heat an...

Tim,
What a wonderfully elegant piece. I really appreciate the layering/depth and your edge work. Very nicely done!
I also really like the few, small bubbles on the back. They are like little punctuation marks

David,
I just love this piece. You have truly captured light on water. I feel as though I could just "walk into" the sceen. Very, very nice!

Wow! Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments. Getting these techniques to work together continues to be an adventure :) Bob - It's especially wonderful to read your comment! Taking your class last fall was an inspiration. I have been experimenting with crackle and working to incorporate it into...

Hi Brandi, You might want to check out S96 firing schedule for thick projects: http://www.system96.com/Pages/ThickFiringGuideF.html I think you need to do some work on the annealing and cooling portions of your schedule. 3/4" is a pretty thick slab and you'll need to slow your schedule down qui...

Carol,
I always love seeing your work. This piece is especially intriguing for me. Something about the colors expressed in segments accentuates the linear elements. Very beautiful.

Thank you all for your feedback!
Shawn - It's just under 1/2" thick. The rim required 4 layers.

Chasing the Eclipse
I've been enjoying experimenting with brighter colors. The inspiration for this piece came from the unusual light and shadow effects caused by the recent solar eclipse. That experience was eerie and yet familiar in some ways. The bowl is 16" x 3" and approx 11 m thick.

Re: Pattern Bar/Devit question
Hi Brock. I'm curious...when holding at 1500 for an hour, have you had any problems with bubbles rising from the kiln shelf up into your pieces? I'm still trying to eliminate these in my higher temp projects. but haven't found the right combination of time/heat yet.
