Re: uroboros mottles - can I firepolish edges?
Many thanks to all for your replies. I'll drop the idea. Unfortunately didn't have any scraps to try (never went into lead lighting). It costs me $50 a sheet plus $24.50 transport just to test if (I am in Australia, glass is available in Australia, but half a continent away from me), so you have all...

uroboros mottles - can I firepolish edges?
Hi Have a project where I only need to fire polish the edges of 3mm cut glass (pieces about 4" square). No fusing of 2 pieces, therefore no compatibility issues with different coes. I am looking for interesting patterned multicolor glass, and came across uroboros mottles. It is not designed as ...

Re: Klyr Fire and GlasTac
Can't help regarding the brand names, I live in Australia, therefore try to find products available locally. Re hair spray, I use it a lot. Suppose it depends on size and layering of your work. It works extremely well for some of my jewelry. I also use a water based glue...depends what I am trying t...

Re: ripple dichro - how to cap without bubbles?
Hi, just wanted to post an update regarding cutting 1/4" (2 layers of 1/8" tekta fused with assorted vitrigraph pieces in between). Plate was 10x10". I did as Valerie suggested, using oil and scoring with more pressure than usual. Scored 1/2" strips and tried the heavy duty runni...

Re: ripple dichro - how to cap without bubbles?
I make sure to press firmly with my cutter when cutting thicker glass, and always dip in cutting oil first. It takes a bit more strength to squeeze my running pliers for thicker glass. I have heavy duty running pliers but don't use them; they've got metal jaws which aren't covered with rubber, so I...

Re: Silver Corrosion in a Gallery
I have had silver corrosion in two galleries. In one, the necklaces had some sterling tubes glued with E6000 (a tiny amount) to a sterling chain . The sterling tubes corroded frequently at both ends. The glass display cubes were closed and in the sun, along a large window. I assume that the sun heat...

Re: ripple dichro - how to cap without bubbles?
When I was making lots of jewelry from larger tiles, I always cut them by hand. You easily cut 2-3 layers and with a little more effort 4 layers by hand. Since you're grinding and fire polishing anyway, it makes it much faster than dragging out the saw. Many thanks Valerie, I will try that. It woul...

Re: ripple dichro - how to cap without bubbles?
Hi Valerie, Hi Charlie Many thanks for the details. As Charlie says, both are similar. I will be trying the one for the small pieces, this is what i am doing at present. Had all intentions to fuse this weekend, but we had big storms and the electricity kept going off, so decided not to risk it. Alth...

Re: ripple dichro - how to cap without bubbles?
i've just capped it with clear, and fired with a long bubble squeeze. i haven't noticed trapping any bubbles at all, besides the normal champagne sized ones that are present already in the glass. i don't prefire down to flatten it either. Hi Charlie Very happy to hear that, trying to make some simp...

ripple dichro - how to cap without bubbles?
Hi I am trying to think of some way of capping ripple dichro and avoid trapping bubbles. Have a piece that I have somewhat flattened by fusing it with the dichro down. However, there are still enough "valleys" in the piece to cause problems. If I flatten it further it will completely loose...

Re: reply to query: Revolution XT, do you like it?
Hi Andre, Thank you for looking it up. Haven't ordered the keel and sliding table, because I only want to use the XT for curved cuts, mainly jewellery, but also some larger pieces. For straight cuts I like to use the tile saw. Your reply might help David Jenkins with the alignment of his sliding tra...

Re: reply to query: Revolution XT, do you like it?
Hi Andre, I am curious about the issue of chipping, perhaps there is something I can improve on. Do you think your blade runs really firm, with little or no vibration? We have adjusted wheels and belt to the maximum tension, as per installation instructions. However, I am surprised at how much the b...

Thank you all for your replies, I really appreciate your help. I will keep all your suggestions in a file, they will very useful as I try to cut other types and colors of glass. Re: marking glass to be cut with Revolution XT
Disappointing that the dichro chips so badly with this saw. I was looking at it online today. Other than that , do you like it? Is it worth the money? Anybody else have one? I bought the original Taurus ring saw and it was junk. Little plastic parts that wore out FAST. Blades that broke no matter h...

Re: marking glass to be cut with Revolution XT
Hi Andre and Mike Many thanks for your replies. Managed to test my XT today, very cold outside, but no wind or rain. I ended up trying two ways of marking: Tracing around the pattern with a black marker and covering the mark with vaseline. This worked very well (on clear and light colored glass). Pr...

marking glass to be cut with Revolution XT
Hi, Just got the XT, haven't tried it yet, waiting for better weather to take it out to the veranda. In the meantime I am preparing some test patterns to cut. Need to cut a lot of small pieces (about 1 1/2 x 1 1/4"). They have 2 curved sides and I am wasting a lot of expensive patterned dichro ...

Re: Leponitt Heavy duty pliers - no plastic - do they work?
Hi Seachange......I had a look around on-line and found this comment on a biker site: It's from 2009 so don't know if they still carry it. Sorry it's so small but all it says is that it's available at Bunnings. You do have Bunnings in Tassie? Jen Yes! now we have one in the north of Tassie ! Took a...

Re: Leponitt Heavy duty pliers - no plastic - do they work?
You don't need any plastic on these heavy duty pliers!! They are designed to work as sold. Thanks Don. Will try them without any plastic first. My concern is with dichroic coatings, some tend to chip. In my small running pliers I am forever changing the plastic covers, but that is the only experien...

Many thanks for that. We have accounts with two electrical shops in town, they are very helpful, will check with them next time.
Did a quick search for plastisol, google brought up a lot of sites about printing on t shirts, will try again.
