I have a cordless Mighty Mite (or something like that) by Dremel. I used it just this morning with a carbide drill bit for glass and tile. I used modeling clay as a dam to hold water. I was only drilling a small hole, but it worked like a charm.

I've been using plain, white vinegar. Have I been lucky so far and am I just asking for trouble? Don't want to find myself in a pickle

Would copper pipe work?

I'm thinking about a piece for my own garden and was wondering if copper would work. I have a bunch of it from some other unfinished project that I must have abandoned when I discoverd glass.....
What would be the risks of using copper? :?:

This is so timely for me, I hope you don't mind if I jump in here... I just fused a smallish piece - about 9" round. It's three colors on the bottom with clear over the top. I ended up with a few bubbles and I'm wondering if this is salvageable. The mention of using clear frit made me start won...

Wow, thanks for the speedy reply! I was thinking I'd just grind them off 'cause otherwise, it looks pretty cool. Maybe I'll work up the nerve to post a pic when I finish the piece...
Thanks again for the insight!

Pattern Bar Help....

I made my first attempt at a pattern bar yesterday. It turned out OK, but I ended up with a spikey ridge running along both sides along the top.
What did I do wrong? Too hot maybe? I held at 1450 for about 30 minutes.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions

Equipment question from a novice

Good morning! Could you tolerate another question from a novice?
My husband recently bought a Craftsman variable speed grinder. Is there any reason why I couldn't use this to grind the edges of my glass pieces? Is there a special wheel that I should purchase?

Thanks very much!

Temper vs Anneal

[quote="Bert Weiss"][quote="Mark Selleck"]I have a prospective customer who wants etched and colored panels for a shower enclosure. I'm wondering about any technical problems that would prevent one from firing paints/stains onto tempered float glass. I'm looking at doing panels u...

Re: Interesting Question.......here's my 2 nanocents....

I guess a second thing I'd like to maybe poke at is to put out there that NOTHING is really new. I hear people say this and I STRONGLY disagree. One of the miraculous things about glass is that there is so much that hasn't been done. I can agree with this if you are talking about design. Technique,...

I've never tried this , however, I have READ that you could use an inexpensive coffee grinder for small scale frit making.
Anyone else ever heard of that? :?:

Am I too late? Perhaps you could accomplish your objective with a torch using a technique similar to those used in making hollow glass beads, or vessles. Just a thought..........
