Re: Does mr97 really need to be reapplied every firing?

Laurie: Just MR97--no Thin Fire or Kiln Wash? I've been using Thin Fire but have wondered if I kiln washed my shelf and used Thin Fire on top if the backs of my pieces would be smoother. My shelf if big and heavy and I hate the clean up from kiln wash which is why I don't use just kiln wash. Thanks,...

Re: Earring Bails or Small Rings for Earring Wires

I forgot to say that many folks have had trouble using fine silver in their kilns. They say it can leave ugly marks on pieces in subsequent firings. They recommend using a shelf dedicated to using silver. I don't do that since I've never had a problem. But lots of people have warned against it so i ...

Re: Earring Bails or Small Rings for Earring Wires

I would think that any jump ring you use in transparent glass earring would show. I used some under dichro on clear and that's what happened. I didn't like the look. I use .999 fine silver to make rings. Off hand I can't remember the gauge but I'd guess 18 or 20. I get it at my glass supplier. It fi...

Ordinary powder in place of enamel powder?

I was wondering if you can use regular powder (Bullseye or Uroborus) with Silk Screen Medium or A-14 to create an enamel? I did this once because I wanted that color and all was well, but someone asked me if it's okay. I thought I'd ask the experts. Thanks in advance. Drewcilla, So appreciative of t...

Re: Cause of blotches?

I had the same problem with a plate. I, too, tried sanding and even etching. Finally I cured the problem on a fifth firing by covering the plate with clear powder and going to 1475.

Good luck,

Re: is this normal? (fired paint)

I am no expert but I've had some success this past year and I would offer the following: 1. After printing, I dry the piece in a turned-off 250 degree oven until thoroughly dry. 2. Then I "cure" the piece in the kiln before full fusing with this schedule: 500 - 1000 : full - 1250 - hold 5:...

Re: Decals and Screen Printing

Mike, thank you so much for all the detail in this post. I, too, have been experimenting with screen printing since last spring. I didn't have trouble with the images, but getting the correct exposure time was difficult for me. (I want to thank Ted Bach on this board for a detailed post he wrote las...

Re: Shaping using grinder leaves marks

I agree that you can get them from US delivered to you for less. I get two 600 grit bits (Two-fers) for $25 here:

http://www.thegrindershop.com/products/bits

Email them to see what it would cost you to have them shipped.

Re: Shaping using grinder leaves marks

I had this problem with pendant sized pieces in the beginning. Advice about dropping the pieces immediately into water, following initial grinding with a finer grinding bit (I use 600), and scrubbing them well cured my problem immediately. I, too, use Bullseye Thinfire and don't have the hazing prob...

Many of the people who post here have websites you should visit to see the wide variety of styles. My only advice would be to think of the readability of fonts and colors. Some combinations of colors and font styles are more difficult to read. You want to make it very easy for your customers/admirer...
