Re: ceramic and porcelain tiles as dams?

Personally i like using stainless steel best. Big surprise there, huh! I can fit so much more in the kiln too. In a class making reverse casting i took my own formers to the class. While everyone else was stuggling with dams and supports etc i just put in the stainless and built the piece in 2 min. ...

Re: Kiln Wash Crust

You can get quite a few loads done with one application of kiln wash. When it starts chipping off it is time to remove it. I use a hand sander with rough sand paper until it is completely gone. The shelf just gets smoother and smoother. Be sure to wear a mask. It can be a dusty job. When doing somet...

Re: Kiln Question

Although I do not know this kiln in particular....it is probably a peep hole so that you can view your work during the firing. Stuff it with fiber blanket or a peep plug that you can get from a pottery supply house.

nice little video about this kiln on tube

Re: Stained Glass - Scrap Pieces

Make 5-10 lb boxes, take a couple of pics and say "all boxes different mix" and post on Craigs list and ebay. You will be surprised how many mosaic people are looking for exactly that! Using usps free boxes is the way to go! (unless you ship across country then they are just too high these...

Re: Stained Glass - Scrap Pieces

You can also sell it by the pound on ebay to mosaic folk. I had a customer the other day that bought what to me was junk.....added up to almost what the sheet would be. She was so happy with the variety. Win win!

Re: Texture molds,

I like Stoneware clay.....no need for a slab roller......just use a rolling pin, newspaper and some guides along the edge that will determine the thickness. When stamping in texture be careful to avoid undercuts. Dry slowly and throughly.

96 Clear formula

I understand that spectrum has changed its formula for their clear. Now they have a new "clear ice" that is the price that their clear used to be. It supposedly has a blue tinge when viewed from the side. Their old formula is still available at a cost of an extra $1 per sq ft. I need to ge...

Re: tile saw issue

Les.....this is it. I love it. I think it is very much like yours but a bit lighter weight. Perfect what what I slice up. I am slices down to 1/4" with a somewhat generic glass blade and they are smooth and clean. Happy glass maker here!! :D

Re: tile saw issue

My new saw, the brutus, has water to both sides of the blade. I think it is a great design. You can always add a second little pump and tube for extra water. If your saw is outside.....i would pull a hose over and position it ( a second set of hands would be good for this test) so that there is a sm...

Re: Using a stainless steel ring and scrap clear glass

Ha! It was early! But...no problem....i had my first cup of coffee in hand. I am lousy at math and have a scale handy so for me weighing a circle of glass that fits in the ring i am using and then multiplying the weight by 2 for a 1/4". 3 for a 3/8" is a nice easy waY to go. The above info...
