Repellant Glass... PS

I forgot to mention that I had positioned intermittent dams around the panel to insure that pieces wouldn't float away from center...

Repellant Glass?

Opened my kiln to an odd thing yesterday.... A beautifully fused 35x12x1/4" panel layer except for one spot where the cut and ground edges had repelled one another and left a hole similar to a split seam - all the way through to the shelf - about 1/2" long and 1/4" wide. All other sea...

Re: More Famous-ness going on around here

Just got my issue of Glass Craftsman, and want to point out the fantastic article featuring Bob and Catharine. Have a look. And as a side note, I just have to comment Catharine - I've said this to several others about you, and now that I'm thinking of it I'll tell you. Woman, you are like trying to...

Bert......... Don't give up on New Orleans as all organizations need the vision of many to stay in touch with the changing needs. The lamp workers had non stop displays, demos and the illuminated light exhibit was more neon and cast work at GAS so it wasn't just hot glass there is a place for every...

Well then, if top and side elements are in use during the entire firing, am I correct in understanding that my main concern is the thickness of a relatively uniform panel rather than area? I'm thinking that area must have something to do with this process. Re: the 35x14x5/8 panel I mentioned... I'm...

Re: Sandblast prints, stack and fire?

I have been tackfusing two prefired 24x17x1/4" panels, adding frit detail. I will stack them, add a third, and fuse all three into one 3/4" panel. The middle layer shows fingerprints on the bottom surface (oh, careless me!), which will be quite obvious over the red background behind the f...

Taking into account the glass AREA when annealing...

Without resorting to a complex mathematical formula, how do I compute an anneal soak for AREA + thickness of a panel? For example: 35x14x5/8"... It has come to my attention that I am not paying enough attention to the area of glass involved when programming my soak at 960. BE glass, top and sid...

GAS musings

No one on the board has mentioned anything about GAS this last weekend in Seattle, so I thought I might get the ball rolling... I thought it was an extraordinary event and an excellent opportunity to put kilnformed work right smack in the middle of everything and everyone. Obviously, hot glass compr...

[The difference between art and craft is medium? :? , The difference between high craft and low craft are that one is artistic and the other humble? One is individual and one is steeped in tradition? One it tacky and one is sophistocated and tasteful??? How do we define and create distinctions? This...

I veer away from slick and obvious solutions. Pieces demonstrating originality, strong design and thoughtful execution catch my eye... I'm particularly drawn to coloration, texture and line.

As one who has extra relays on hand (guess who's been burned), I thought I would forward the information that you can find them at Grainger's... I'm switching out to mercury relays in the bigger kiln next month.

Jackie, I agree! I have fibreboard shelves in my kilns and I line them both with 1/8" fibre paper, before firing atop thinfire. That 1/8" fibre paper stays in my kiln, in good condition, for a couple of months, at least. And those kilns are usually going 24-7. It's good protection for the ...
