I like the serenity of that bowl. The colors worked together well.

Re: Help! It broke

I just fused and slumped my first dish, a 5X10" platter. I believe the glass was green aventurine. It was iridized (?) on one side and sparkly on the other. I placed a layer of clear glass on the bottom and put the iridized side face up. I then placed strips of the same glass, iridized side fa...

The sink is gorgeous, and I am imagining the whole bathroom. Sweet. Really fine work on laying out the irid design. I would have hated making the tumbling block design fit the curves!

Most places I saw verre en fusion and thermoformage as the terms employed for fusing and kilnforming. When I saw verre fondu it almost always referred to the process of making glass or a part of the process of casting or blowing glass. But I did see the expression fusing on quite a few French sites....

Here are a few of the links I pulled when I was trying to explain to my aunt what I do. At least one of them offers classes. Also these artists (the French ones) may be able to help the emailer to find a book in French. I don't have any books on fusing in French. I am guessing that her best bet for ...

A while back I was perusing some French sites on fusing, someone was doing some very cool work. They didn't call it verre fondu though. My written french grammar sucks, but as a native frenchie raised in the US with all my family across the pond, I defend myself quite well in French. Email me their ...

There's no way we can confirm that it is reactions between the glasses without knowing which specific colors you are using.

What I meant to say was that only you will know what schedule works best with your kiln and the pieces you are making. Keep a notebook and record schedules as well as comments about the outcomes. You will know what works best by doing that.

what kind of kiln do you have? Every kiln is different, even among similar make and model. The thing is, your cabs didn't look over or underfired. I don't think overfiring is causing your problem.

Without knowing how you lay up your glass, my educated guess is that you may have a problem with volume control. You are using three pieces of glass, a black, a clear and the dichro. are the black and clear regular thickness, or thin? You are probably least likely to get distortion if the total thic...

I can't live without my diamond hand pads. They make cleaning up a ground or sawed edge a breeze. Otherwise I like to sandblast ground edges. Boy does that clean things up!

My first kiln was a Paragon Quickfire - the tabletop marshmallow. Immediately after I purchased it, someone who wanted to sell me a different kiln (with a controller) told me a boatload of horror stories that were probably not true, but what did I know? I had plenty of nightmares of burning down the...

Charlie, with 3/8 inch thick, 3/8 inch wide it might be hard to get a 3/8 inch long cut that wasn't curved (at least that's been my experience) Andrea, tile saws are the way to go with straight cuts of thick glass, or use some guides with the Taurus to make sure you go straight. What you could try t...

I have never supersprayed the steel blue, but since capping it with clear gives you the blue when re-fired, I am guessing that superspray will do the same.

Charlie, I can't post a photo of my setup because I don't really have one. What I want to do is a pot melt that I can later cut apart, OR have shaped in some respect when it melts. I've been talking with Tom in Texas, and he gave me some ideas using stainless steel. Clearly the problem is the dam, ...

Re: Thanks for the warning Barbara (Muth)!

Just now finished drilling the 1700th hole on the 1700 hole piece. Barbara I would have done it in much less time and pushed through the pain of beginning tendonitis if it wasn't for you and your warning. I spaced it out and did other things in between and kept myself healthy (okay just a bit sore ...

Yep, Barbara Janine. My mother is Janine Noel (her bday is 12/25). Janine, I think you are racing to the slump. Slow that 1200dph to 1230 down and you will probably eliminate your problem... I don't work with Spectrum, so am not familiar with the temps according to Spectrum, but I have found that it...
