I don't know about the software, but I had a crush on Ace Frehley for a few years.

Ann, eventually I am going to have to find a way to have them powder coated. But for this one, I just got a can of flat black enamel paint for metal. This stand is just a prototype, not for sale. I am using it in a show I have tomorrow to display this one piece as an example of new work.

Lisa, Great job. I'm so glad I bought your pattern bar tray at WGW. I bought it because I loved it. When you are rich and famous and commanding high prices, I'll be ever more grateful I got some of your work when I did!! Nita Ha, ha.......you're funny, Nita. I am so glad that you got the tray at WG...

Thanks to everyone who has responded. I tend to agree that the stand needs to be modified. It is going to be black, but just got it today and was too impatient to wait til it was painted before posting. I think that 2 stems will be more attractive than 1 and will cut them shorter too. Thanks again, ...

Amazing use of pattern bars! I really like the minimal use of red - really draws your attention! How did you do the stand? Is is welded? What material did you use? Greg Thanks Greg. The stand is iron, welded, except for the top bar which is tapped and the top extensions are screwed into it. This al...

Lisa - I very much admire the way you continue to take your work in different directions -- and, at the same time, anyone who knows your work would immediatly recognize this as yours. That is something I am working towards but haven't come close to achieving. As for this piece -- it rocks. I agree ...

Would like your thoughts...

Here is a new piece titled "Finding the Door". Please disregard the lighting, it is just a quick shot to show the piece. i would like your thoughts on the piece and the stand. Both are kind of prototypes for a new direction for me and I would appreciate any suggestions or opinions. Thanks,...

Stella-
Glass seeks a 1/4", so if you only use one layer of 1/8th" pieces, it will draw up. Try using a clear base under your mosaic bits if you want the shape to retain its form.

Here's a link that might help with set up to diffuse the light. http://www.pbase.com/image/13989420

Also, to get a faint reflection, have a white bottom surface and then put a piece of plexi down, then the piece on top of that.

Re: where does the pressure pot go?

Thanks, Lisa, for the pix and the link. But where does the pressure pot belong? Just anywhere between the compressor & the cabinet? (Yes, this is the same gal who spent hours - and 3 trips - to Home Depot yesterday to connect a high pressure hose to a faucet adaptor - and still ended up with th...

Cheryl- You can also go to http://www.tptools.com, click on Tips/Technical at the top of the page and then click on Air Line Hookup - Metal Piping Diagram. Just got finished installing one for myself and this was tremendously helpful, gives the diagram and the parts list. Lisa Matter of fact, here a...

I agree with Cynthia that the bubble squeeze is the way to go for future pieces. I usually slow down to 50dph between 1100 and 1250. On pieces that already have trapped bubbles, I have drilled them out from the bottom and refired (with bubble squeeze included in schedule) with success, however, thes...

Try carving before you burn them out. From my experience, they are less fragile and less prone to crumbling before they are fired. Also, use a really sharp exacto blade.

Re the annealing cycle, the Bullseye folks seem to think it is better to soak below the annealing point rather than above - I can't exactly remember the reason. But 960 leaves you soaking below the transparent annealing point (990) and above the opaque annealing point (935), so you end up accomodati...

Fabulous! Glad that my hunch was wrong and that you salvaged the piece. The learning curve sucks with new kilns. You'll figure this one out so you can fire stress free (pun intended) in your new baby. \:D/ Thanks, Cynthia! I wouldn't say it is salvaged completely, because it shifted too much for it...

Re: Water jet shapes?

I was recently in a stained glass store in Florida, where they had some gorgeous water jet cut butterflies cut from dichroic glass, and then fused. The shop owner said she'd picked them up at a glass convention. Anyone know a wholesale source? Try Pacific Art Glass in CA. Don't remember the website...

the kiln is at 180º so I peeked and there are no visible cracks Air temperature! The glass had to be over 300 on its surface and probably 500 F or more internally for a thick piece. Haven't there been a long discussions on this board before about the 300F glass transition temperatures, the ones I ...

I don't know how or why but my money's on incompatability. Brock I hope that you are wrong. One of the reasons I am hesitant to believe that it is incompatibility is that the clear in the first cracks was from sheet glass and the clear in the second was crystal clear frit. It would at least make mo...
