Kevin is right Molly. I was just sharing my lifetime experience, what works for me and what I'm happy with. I wouldn't advise you to use this set up. It's your decision based on your experience and current circumstances. Let us know how you proceed anyway and maybe put some pictures up of your proje...

You got it Rick. Sorry Molly, I didn't know how best to explain it, but Rick done a great job here. All this will save you buying another controller. Only thing to be aware of is that the kiln being fired must have the thermocouple fitted, and connected. So it will read the temperature of the kiln b...

Why you can't use the same controller for the two kilns?

Just swap over the thermocouple and power leads as necessary.

Colour-code the leads so you never forget which leads to disconnect and which ones to connect and there you go

Ouch, that's an expensive lesson! Geri has the solution. Keep blank inventory sheets on the computer, print off as needed. I put a carbon paper between them when I deliver, fill it out in front of the manager. They keep one copy. Anything that isn't present on the next inventory check/delivery has t...

Okay then Gale well it seems Charlie has a good technique here, it would be interesting to see the result, I am curious because I haven't tried what you described before.

I don't notice you are talking about dripping into a mould Gale, I thought you were dripping it direct into something like a plate mould. You probably know about this already, but I found that by putting a good solid chunk of glass into the bottom of the clay flower pot, covering the outlet, seems t...

I've recycled solid chunks from (ahem) previous experiments on a shelf then pot-melt on top of that.

It comes out pretty neat -the original pieces on the shelf kind of fade/blend into the rings produced by the pot melt.

About 9 years ago I bought a Guyson C-21 unit from their New York place, shipped it to Belize and the total cost was less than 400US$. 110volt, the motor is mounted seperate to the extractor/fan part so built to last. Change the filters every 6months or so, not that they need it but just to be on th...

Paul, as a wholesaler would you also be responsible for guarantee & after-care? That could tie you up a lot in time & money running round. But one solution might be that if you are a regular buyer from the same source, maybe they would give you a price break for buying so often. I'd work wit...

I sift plaster on the floor (with a liberated flour sieve) and vaccuum it out with a mini car-vac every couple of firings and then sift some more.

Plaster is cheaper than kiln wash, that's all.

I'm a bloke, I wear a dichro pendant, different one every week and it generates sales/interest in glass, like "Wow, whered'ya get that" or "I didn't know you could do that with glass!" The pendants look good on blokes if the hanger and chain is strong-looking and cufflinks go wel...

Nice work Carolina, you have a lot of patience.

I was admiring a ladys' work just yesterday, similar technique.

She makes tropical fish figures using translucent glass and then copper foil technique to make them into lamps.

Re: Fusing dichroic glass

How do you keep pieces of dichroic glass from flowing together when they are the middle layer of a three layer fusing project? I'm just trying to picture what you are describing Robert; It's a glass sandwich, right? With the dichro pieces as the filling in a coloured base and a clear cap? Question;...

I don't think that people really want to know how things are done, the same way they don't want to know that they are paying for all that slag that you had to make, before you could make that really spiff piece. That's not to say you shouldn't tell them, just that they might not want to know. Greg ...

Yes it's a pain when you get a clever-clogs trying to catch you out isn't it? But it helps if you have a ready answer (chance prefers the prepared mind!), someone recently posted a great one here, I think it was Brock?; "Well firing glass, it's similar to playing a piano; everybody has the same...
