Why you can't use the same controller for the two kilns?

Just swap over the thermocouple and power leads as necessary.

Colour-code the leads so you never forget which leads to disconnect and which ones to connect and there you go

I've recycled solid chunks from (ahem) previous experiments on a shelf then pot-melt on top of that.

It comes out pretty neat -the original pieces on the shelf kind of fade/blend into the rings produced by the pot melt.

I sift plaster on the floor (with a liberated flour sieve) and vaccuum it out with a mini car-vac every couple of firings and then sift some more.

Plaster is cheaper than kiln wash, that's all.
