Jim,
I would add 30 min. at 900F and go down from 900 to 700 at about 80 F / hour.

Re: fused glass leaking under support ?
In addition to what Brad mentioned, you may want to line the inside of your frame with 1/8" fiber paper.

Re: Stainless Steel Mold
Dave, One technique that has always been sucessful is after initial heating to get rid of machine oils, has been to coat the cold mold with dishwashing detergent (Dawn, etc.) Apply as small amount to a cloth and wipe over mold where you are going to coat with kiln wash. Let dry. Apply a coat of thic...

Les,
I really like the change. It makes it look like a contemporary painting in glass.

Re: Sconce question
Andy,
If he is going to assemble it with copper strips, that is a horse of a different color. You may be able to do it in 12 drapes, which as you said will give you the shiny outside.

Re: Sconce question
Andy, Why do you want to cut the clay mold in 12 pieces? Just pour the castable (like Mold Mix 6) over the clay mold. Use a cylinder to act as a mold containment for casting. The clay mold should come out of the casting. You may want to spray Pam vegetable oil over the clay as a release. As long as ...

Re: New bubbles that weren't occuring before
Karen, The bubbles are not from the kiln shelf or cleaning. They are from air trapped between the copper design layer and the clear glass cap. In the picture there appears to be texture in the copper sheet which is an invitation to bubbles. As someone mentioned that fireing face down without the cle...

Re: Need help with this schedule
Vicki, At 1440 you are at full fuse (fuse flat) temp. I'm guessing the petals are one layer thick. If so, they will contract drastically at full fuse. You would have to have full fused 2 layers and then cut the petals out to prevent "shrinkage." If you lower your fuse temp. to about 1350-1...

Re: Uneven bowl slumping
When you mentioned that you leveled the mold, I trust that you leveled from side to side and front to back. If you changed the front to back you then need to redo the side to side.

Re: fusing 96 white streaky to clear
If you are looking for a full fuse, 1350 is too low. I would go to 1450.

Perhaps you could fill the open space with fiber blanket.

Re: Uneven bowl slumping
Is the piece to be slumped uniform thickness (weight) all the way around? If it isn't I'm not sure how to compensate except perhaps to move the heavy side slightly further from the center.

Re: Uneven bowl slumping
Check that the kiln shelf is level using a spirit level. Then check that the mold is level. Perhaps slow down by 50 d. above 1000.

Linda,
Besides what Bert mentioned, inadaquate annealing is just as likely to cause the crack. Lots in the archive about annealing.
