Re: silk screening-- what am I doing wrong
Finally trying my hand at silk-screening, but when I go to wash out the image, all the film comes off. I'm working in the dark (ahem) - image on laser-printed transparency, 110 mesh monofilament screen (cleaned & degreased), wet the screen (lightly), squeegee the film onto screen (via black ligh...

Yes wispy is the word, Steve. Will O' the wisp is a good description too; someone even has their website called http://ignus.fatuus.com/ I like the subtlety and diaphonous-ness of gold leaf, the way it looks like the skeleton of a tree-grown leaf. As I am just a tint, just one of the multiplicity of...

Re: gold leaf question
Hi gang of glass I've been checking out the archives for an answer to a proceedure for fusing with gold leaf. Do you need to cap it before you fire? Is there a firing proceedure that you can recommend? Thanks Me Kim :) Did you find what you were looking for in the archives? There should be quite a ...

Re: Slumping 10mm glass
I intended to make a bowl of a 30 cm circle of 10 mm glass, sandblasted and coloured, then slumped into a ss mould, diameter 30 cm, depth 15cm. However, I've been told that this mould will be too deep for the glass and that I'll get roll over of the top edge, which obviously will spoil the end resu...

Re: cutting thick circles
I just had a conversation with a glass supplier who advised me that 1/4" BE is very difficult to cut with accuracy because of the glass texture. If your cutter doesn't have intimate contact all along the cut it tends to run off. The bumpy surface seems to make it difficult to get that intimate...

Re: thin fire shelp paper problems
I've scanned the sight for some info, but haven't found anything yet. Recently the thin fire shelf paper I use separates under the piece of glass I am fusing, causing a vein or scarring of the glass. Anyone know why this is happening, and more importantly, how do I make it stop? Thanks! There is so...

Yo Brian thanks. Takes a lot of studying; I can walk AND chew gum but this mailform thing's got me. I'll see what I can download and put the results here for archiving just in case anyone needs it later. Hopefully JAVA but that is rocket science to me. If I get it going I'll call it Stevensons rocke...

Oh, THAT kind of frame! I've been thinking, why would anyone want to put their kiln on a cardboard frame! Okay I'm awake now. Ladie, how about adhering the fused frame to a piece of picture frame glass. A design progression from that would be a step or recess in the back of the fused frame that the ...

The top shelf will fire hotter than the lower shelf. Glass fired on the top shelf won't look the same as that fired on the lower shelf. Why scrimp on a days' firing when what you are making will endure thousands of years? Surely it's better to take your time and do it properly, one at a time? The ar...
