i don't use any coolant in my water, i get very good blade life just with water which doesn't gum up the pump.

the hot dog blade will give you alot of chipping on the bottom edge. it's fine for cutting up kiln shelves but for glass you need a finer blade that gives a better cut.

I use my MK 101 for the same exact purpose, having migrated to the relatively huge 101 from a smaller MK saw due to my desire to cut much thicker slabs.

Beyond price and tool longetivity (and I firmly believe that you get what you pay for...), two issues apply, as follows.

1. The quality of the diamond blade is the most important. I use the Husqrvarna (so??) from HIS Glassworks or from Amazon. It's expensive but makes the cleanest of cuts in glass.

2. The horsepower of the saw, particularly when cutting thick slabs. Pick a saw with very low power and you'll need to slow waaaaay down in order to not bog down the blade. Of course cutting slowly, so as not to heat up/thermal shock your glass and/or ruin your blade is always recommended anyway.

In the end, due to the quality of cuts, the speed at which I can cut and, ultimately, the amount of high-quality jewelry pieces that I can produce, the cost of the saw and the uber-nice diamond blade are or little consequence.

Good luck!

I bought a Ryobi tile saw from Home Depot for $129 and a glass tile blade for $29.95. Seems to work great!
