schedule for "fire polish"

Post by bkfoltz »

I need to "fire polish" some 2x2 single layer squares for a mosaic wall project.

We have all the 2x2 multi layer tiles done. this is the program I used for the multi layer tiles. Someone from this site gave it to me and I worked great.
600 1480 20
9999 970 20
120 850 0
200 700 0
off

the kids at school have loved working with the glass. I will post pictures as soon and I have the wall done.

We have a large skutt, programable kiln at school (work) and I have small manual kiln at home.

Thanks, KRIS

Looks a little high to me

Looking over your schedule that looks a little high on your max
temp. You will get a low luster firepolish at around 1250 and a
very nice high firepolish at 1300. Going up to 1480 you are
right around tack fuse/full fuse temp depending on how your
kiln is calibrated. It will still work but you are wasting a lot of
bean's going up to that high of a temp and potentially, depending
on the color of the glass, you may get some pull-in of the centers
of the square as the surface tension of glass wants to be 6mm
and a single layer sheet will pull in its sides to reach that thickness.
