Will it break if I walk on it?

Post by Mira »

I'd like to make a mosiac stepping stone with fused glass pieces included. Do the fused glass pieces, since they'll be much larger than small mosiac pieces, need to be supported somehow to prevent them from breaking when I walk on them? I was thinking mastic (sp?) as the adhesive.

Thanks!

Hi, Mira--

I'm not sure what size pieces you're thinking of using, but remember that glass (fused or not) and tile can get very slick, particularly when wet. Keeping the pieces on the small side and using grout can help keep the surface of the piece be a little more "rough" and not quite so likely to cause you to take a header on your mosaic. I managed a lovely prattfall on a mosaic stepping stone I'd made-- it was 18" diameter and at least two of the pieces were app. 3".

Good luck!
