glue question...suggestions GREATLY appreciated

I suspect that if you could see glue, then it didn't fill all the space between the layers. You really need a lot of excess glue to completely fill a space, regardless of the type of glue. Also, silicone is usually watertight, but it is fairly thick so not so easy to spread out, there will be a lot of waste.
