Spectrum Slump/Fire Polish Temp?

Post by Ross »

Question... this relates to using Spectrum glass. If I want to slump and fire polish at the same time, what temp do I need to go to after the slump and for how long?

Ross,

When I do the matte finish, sandblasted pieces you've seen, I fire for the matte finish and slump at the same time. Using Spectrum 96, that's 1125/10 mins in my kiln. I fire polish the same glass at 1300/10 mins. My guess is that you might get away with around 1275 for some time and still get a complete fire polish. I recently had to refire a piece to re-tack some mosaic frit to the outter edge after it broke off (insufficiet tack the first time around :( ), and i did that by putting it into the mold (SS bowl) and refiring to 1275/10. It turned out fine but the piece took on every nuance of the mold, including the air escape holes  .

Hope this is helpful,

Cliff
