Was online looking for rectangular shelves to chop up when I stumbled on these. They're pretty pricey, but otherwise sound terrific!

yah but if it has absorbed any moisture it explodes unless you ramp up verrrry slowly.

that's a shame.

I actually have some samples of them. The company that sent it to me was not familiar with any glass users. So far my 2 test of point loads of 4 layers of glass on one spot has had them survive. I just have not had anytime to really go at it though. Interesting about exploding - where did you find this out?

If you scroll down to the bottom of their website there is a warning about the moisture/exploding issue.

I talked to a rep at Bailey who told me that the Advantage shelves are meant to be used only above 1800 degrees, in a reducing atmosphere. They will deteriorate if used at lower tempertures. Evidently the components in the shelf must re-form and that only happens at the higher temperatures. However there is an even more expensive material that can be special ordered that is oxidation resistant. I'll post more info if it looks good.

posted right on the web site. Of course, we have similar problems with trapped water so I wasn't horribly put off by it. Then again, I NEVER "know better."
