But the real question is, why 1700 for 2 hours? that is a LOT of heat for a LONG time. that sounds more like an aggressive pot melt than a fuse.

The time to cook is defined by how lumpy the glass is. So, if you have stacks of things that you want to all get flat, I do something like this:

ramp up to 1300, hold 30-60 (to squeeze the bubble out)
up 200 d/h to 1550, hold 10
ramp down

Really? I tried the #3's I had on hand a few years back, and I couldn't see a thing in the kiln. Always mean to look for some #2 lenses for the goggles.
