Jerry, when I had a large floor-model belt sander I used oil, sprayed on from an aerosol can, instead of water; much less messy in an enclosed environment. I now have the Covington benchtop model on a rolling cart, with a water dripfeed from a three litre plastic juice container, to the built-in water regulator on the belt sander. Jen
