schedule help? Oval 39" with side & top elements

Post by chrisk »

I need some schedule help/advice, please. All my kilns are JenKen - the old kiln is a 16" fiber Bonnie Glo with side elements, my new oval 24x39 has side & top elements. I am attaching a pic of my first fire - all bulleye 2 layers. The 10.5 square was perfect as was the 6" retro square. The aqua coasters were only a little curved on the sides (I had to cold work a bit) and the red & black were extremely distorted and the black glass was overcooked - the color is strange sort of brownish.
The schedule I used is:
Ramp Degrees Hold/min
1) 300 - 500 - 02
2) 500 - 1150 - 05
3) 325 - 1225 - 50 bubble squeeze
4) 400 - 1480 - 10 ( my top temp is 1490 in the Bonnie Glo)
5) Full - 900 - 60
6) 100 - 700 - 2

2nd question - going to the large kiln with top elements are temps usually lower for all (fire polish, tac fuse/slump) compared to the smaller kilns with only side elements.

Thank you,
Chris
