When fusing float, as I understand it the two tin sides must be facing each other. If you fuse 3 pieces of float does the 3rd piece face inward? TIA

Richard,

I think the main thing you are trying to avoid is devit. Tin side devits much easier than the air side. So, rule of thumb is 'tin side down' , espicially on the top piece of glass-IMO.

Hope this helps.

Will devit sprays or borax help the piece if tin side is up?

I'm new to this too and am borrowing kiln time this weekend for some float projects this weekend.

So any tips regarding the tin side of float glass would be greatly appreciated.

I don't find the tin side more prone to devit, exactly. The tin side does protect the bottom surface when placed against the shelf.

The tin side can effect enamels making them turn brown, so if you are enameling keep the tin side away from the enamels.

I find fewer devit problems using heavier glasses 10mm and up are less prone than 1/4" and thinner.
