hi there . i have a bowl with thompsons liquid bright gold fired on and i want to take it off. i can not remember if sulphuric or nitric is the acid of chouce. help? rosanna

BonAmi cleaner will remove it.

Nitric acid, usually as aqua regia (which is a nitric and hydrochloric mixture), but nitric alone will do it. I don't think sulfuric acid will dissolve gold unless it's really concentrated.

I suspect sandblasting would work, too.

In the stained glass world, black patina is nitric acid. All I know is that this dissolves vitreous enamels. I would guess it works on gold.
