Which kiln wash for Core Lite shelves

Post by Laura Mullen »

Hi-
I just got a CoreLite shelf for my Skutt1214. Info online about kiln washes for these shelves is mixed. I don’t cast glass, and my highest temp may reach 1470°. I hope to avoid getting any wash stuck to the bottom of my glass, needless to say. Is there a final answer for which wash is preferred for CoreLite shelves?
I’ve had one glass artist tell me he coats his CoreLite shelf once every 6 mos (cleans it at that point, too), and another artist coats the shelf lightly once every firing, cleaning the shelf every 3 mos. any suggestions? I can fire every day for a few weeks, then not at all for months.
Thank you for any insight or cautions you can share with me before I launch into using this shelf!

I just use Bullseye more or less the same as any other shelf. Might need recoating a little more often, but not much difference.
