re-fuse?

http://webpages.charter.net/warmglass/M ... age15.html

Smashed to smithereens, can this be saved?
What we have here is one layer of thin be amber
cathedral first layer. Second layer is wasser
thin white opaque, patterened with be flowers
and stringers.

Fused successfully, put it on top of floral
former to make vase, was in less than 1 hour
and I would presume thermal shocked. Fell all
over the kiln floor.

Anyways, I've tried repair jobs like this
before and wouldn't give this another thought,
(..it belongs to by student
and he's worked so hard, I feel bad...)
but I've read here a few people mention that
they would fuse it again to fix it.

Can that be done? How? I can't visualize the
white "rejoining". Glue? Add layers? Would
it still be a candidate for a handherchief
vase? Can all of the kings horses and all the
kings men put humpty dumpty back together
again????
hellllpppp

Can it be glued together & a clear piece put over it to help hold it in the fusing?

It looks like thermal shock to me too. Wow!

If the edges are rounded (I can't tell from the photo), it's going to be hard to re-fuse without it showing...probably impossible.

If the edges are still sharp, you have a chance, but it will probably show. It's a good exercise to try it just to see what happens.

If the edges are sharp, I'd reassemble it and take it to about 1485-1490...no backing sheet will be necessary.

Good luck!

if you use a backing piece maybe rub some powder of another color in the cracks. make them a design element instead of trying to make them dissapear. good luck. rosanna

Or even cut out the lovely flowers and layer them on top of another white or colored piece of glass and then try to fuse again.

Good ideas, I'll pitch these to Dave and try to advise. The edges are sharp, so thinking about straight out fuse. Thought about breaking a bit more and then fusing to another background and calling it a mosaic in the italianate 1220's style of Antoine de'La Mosaaaiecs. I think he'd go for the idea if the full fuse doesn't work, place the flowers on another backing and fuse.

The sifting of powders is an intriguing idea, Id like to try that one myself.

Definatley worth saving. I sure like to break the younsters in right! Almost as bad as my first experiences. Yeah, plural.

In my experience when carving stone sculptures, if something breaks and falls off that wasn’t suppose to break and fall off, you have two choices. One, toss into “theâ€
"Come to the edge. We might fall. Come to the edge. It's too high! Come to the edge! And they came, and he pushed...... and they flew."

Even though Rob's idea was my fav, we went with a re-fuse and call it done. It's still something Dave can take home and show off. I don't feel it is sturdy enough to try another slump, but as they say, "Dem's da breaks!!!!" Welcome to the world of warmglass. He was frustrated, yet happy. Ready for his next project. I wish my first fuse was worth taking home :o
