Wine Bottle -Frank Family Vineyards

Post by susanmozingo »

Hello all, I have several wine bottles from the Frank Family Vineyards, Napa Valley. They have painted lettering and scenes on the front and painted lettering on the back. Does anyone know if these bottles are like the Corona bottles and retain their lettering when fused flat? Thanks.

If you can, scratch it in a discreet place (such as the back), with the edge of a key.

If it comes off, it is enamel and will burn off without question.

If the color is below the surface, it was etched first, and then color filled. Again, most likely with enamels...

The only 2 cents I can add. - At least it's a start.

Fire those bad boys and see what happens. The colors may shift - like the Corona.

If in doubt I would put one in the oven first. If it is enamel it will smoke and start to burn off. It is not fun to clean a kiln that has been "smoked" up.

Kilns are basically self cleaning. Just fire vented to a hundred or so deg f over fusing temp and all is clean. Rosanna

OMG, don't put it in your oven!!! That smoke is nasty mojo burining off. You want your next quiche tasting like polyvinyl chloride (or whatever nasty crap they used to paint the bottle)?
