Olympic 146GFE Square?

Post by Nitnelion »

Hi everyone! I'm new to glass fusing and this website. I've been taking a fused glass class and am enjoying it enough that I've decided to purchase a kiln. At the moment, I'm mostly making glass ornaments (mostly snowflakes), but I'd like to be able to branch out into larger pieces.

With that in mind, I've been looking for a square kiln that is large enough to fit a 12 x 12 piece of glass and am leaning toward the Olympic 146GFE Square. I was also considering the Paragon Fusion 14 and the Skutt Fire Box 14, but the price of the Olympic and the fact that I can get it with the 12-key controller put the Olympic at the top of the list. Does anyone have this kiln? Would you recommend it (or Olympic kilns generally)? The Olympic is the shallowest of the three kilns by ½ inch. Do you think the difference between 6.5" and 6" is important? Would the 6" depth limit my ability to use molds?

Thanks in advance!
