Show opening last night

Post by KarunaS »

A year in the making this invitational show with 11 Maui artists - mostly painters - opened last night at Viewpoints Gallery here on island. I feel so privileged to being a part of this group; over the past year we all participated in a series of documented seminars led by Dick Nelson to "promote visual literacy"; the videos will be shown at the gallery and then at Maui Community College next spring.
A few of my pieces got a primo spot right at the entrance and four of my pieces sold at the collector's opening reception. :D

I went to the web site for the gallery and the work is all really wonderful. I love your use of color. I wish I could visit the show!

I am fascinated by the wall piece (athough it's all nice!) - is it a series of pyramids or is that an optical illusion?

Wonderful Wonderful show. Congradulations. =D> =D> The show also has so much meaning about literacy and that is so valuable . I had a look at other pics also and I love this piece so very much as it reminds me of a very large Colour Bar piece that flows and moves and reacts, and makes me think about reactions to reactions and how we respond to things in life . Amazing show ! http://www.viewpointsgallerymaui.com/ar ... hoto_2.jpg
Les (wish I could see the show in person) and of course love your island so very much.

Hi Cheryl,
They are not pyramids but optical illusion created by using layers of tinted glass. It's fun watching people go up to the piece - most of them will then look at it from the side and are surprised to see a flat surface.
