Remake frit painting

Post by david n »

I just finished the remaking of a piece that I made last month. The initial piece had BE013 which developed stress after a number of firings. This piece has had 8 firings without stress, and without any BE013. The first one became a giveaway, and 5lbs. of BE013 became a throwaway. Live and learn.

Nice piece David! I also dumped all of my BE0013 powder.

I was at Art Palm Beach last month...and believe I saw some of your work. Captivating and sensuous use of light and shadow. Very, very well done.

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it. It's validating to get encouragement from the glass community. Risa, my work was at Art Palm Beach last month with my gallery (unfortunately I wasn't there). They sold a large piece to someone they called a "major collector", whatever that means. It can't hurt.

This is what I would love to learn to do. I have used Michael Dupilles technique but I want my picture to have NO bubbles....I did oil painting many years back and love these results in glass. Your piece is beautiful.

What did you use in place of BE013? That opaque white?

Very nice indeed.

May I ask what are you using instead of BE0013?

I am curiuos, have you or anybody else incurred problems with BE0013 in other forms? like sheets, or big frit? [03]

Thanks,

I replaced the BE013 with BE113 (white opal) and it worked fine. I like the BE243 for snow, but it can't withstand the vitrograph temp. it turns partially clear. BTW I just returned from The Glass Weekend at Wheaton Arts in NJ today. My gallery sold this piece Sat. It was an amazing experience with demos and lectures from well-known glass artists (many collectors there too). It's held every other year. I would recommend it to anyone who loves glass.

Beautiful work David....haven't heard from you in awhile but it looks like you have been busy.

For anyone looking to take a class in this technique, Miriam di Fiore teaches her technique in her studio in Italy and also at various studios in the US. We are hoping to have her back teaching in our studio, Oatka School of Glass, in November 2014......

Beautiful work David!! Have you used the new Warm White instead of the BE13? Any problems, or would it dull it down a touch? Thoughts?
