Although it may not be a pretty mold to some , it had to be structurally strong to handle the heavy wait from the 24" inch glass panel. So it is ready to go and now to dry it out in the skutt kiln to 1500 deg. just to cure the mold and make it strong enough to last for many a year. Les

Thank you for your comments and critique Havi, as I always respect your honest opinion and help. I just slumped it ( 50 Deg. per hour up to 1230 F. AND should have stopped at 1225 as it was soooooooo perfect BUT then caught on one side BUT again, I think I am going to love the unevenness of how it will sit like one of my other pieces that had a "CLING ON" affect. So here it is ready in the kiln and then hot in slump. Sorry for how dark the slump pic is but had to hurry so not so much heat loss.

It actually does not look as deep as it really is!!!!

AND I will take another picture in a week when it is done.

Les, what is the rim around the top of the mold? Was it the dam from fusing the blank? What is it's purpose during the slump? So interesting!

It is a ring of MM6 that I painted on the inside of the metal round dam , and then place on out side of mold to help with thermal shocking the edge as it is a large disc of glass and side elements . I just wanted to be very careful. It did not touch the glass, just sat there being a frame protector from heating up edge tooo quickly until center of glass had become warm. Hope that helps

One more day to wait with all the patience I can muster up for the vessel, but took this out of kiln today and the back side is really nice. Matched up with a few of my twins flame worked beads that have owls on them. Love working with her so much. NOW if I could just figure out how to turn the pictures the right way as beads are sideways.

See if you can find the owls

Still have lots of grinding to do on the edge to straighten and refine but do like the shape for the size of the piece. Now off to the polishing /grinding

I almost forgot to post the polished edge. I live in such a wonderful community where we all help each other and Bavin Glassworks ( Ryan Bavin) gave me hand with his great equipment. Now I just have to find a Black Alabaster ( Gypsum) up at our local quarry . I have some really lovely smaller pieces but this finished piece needs a lovely big slab so we can then carve it out to nestle the piece. BUT good news , the new series " Glacial Striations" is doing well and now I have a show next year with these being the theme . So excited. New glass arrived and now I must get started on the colour bars to slice u

Oh my!!! no idea. Hmmm! 1/2 inch thick and 20 inch wide and 10 inch deep.

But am having fun experimenting again with a large 15 inch x 5 inch thick cane that I will then take to the hot shop and pull out into a 1 inch cane. BUT funny , I forgot to make the mold 18 inchs tall and now Hmmm again,

have to do alittle of praying hands to hopefully see that the pieces upper edge does not bend to far and slump over the mm6 mold as I want to use it over and over again and that might not be good for the mold. Hmmm! but the glass would be interesting regardless

Well sometimes you have to get a burn just to try to get the photo!!!

but this is a bad pic but at 1278 it had just started to move and yes it headed down hill. BUT at the end ( which would have melted my camera if I tried again, ) it actually did crawl back and most of it is in the casting. Next time I will have to cut all the bits of stringers and rods so this will not happen. But am still excited which is all that is necessary

Les, The bowl doesn't look at all lopsided as I thought it might from looking at the picture taken during the slump process. Did you take any measures to correct it? I love the way it turned out!

No actually, it slumped lovely, just abit off kilter , and after grinding top edge it looks really even now BUT will still carve out the Black Alabaster so it sits abit sideways as I love that. I can never seem to do something that is perfect . Love asymmetrical !
P.S. the large cane came out of kiln and will wash and cut into sections tomorrow. Very cool.

Well I am firing the next kiln cast glass colour bar for the Glacial Striation Series. All reactive glass and the large cane that I am taking to the hot shop is out and so excited to slice up before I go to Bavin Glassworks.

Here is the new 'Glacier Striations" Colour Bar at 1270 Deg. F. and now will have to wait for a few days until I can take it out. It is 2" 2/3rd " thick and 19 inchs long and will get lots of slices from this piece.

Well although I am happy with how the pieces came out, I will look forward to going to hot shop and pulling and twisting the sliced large pieces. I DO look forward to the colour bar though to have some really interesting pieces and slices to work with.
