Beautiful =D>
The panel edges are they etched flashed glass?
They are spectacular.

Spectacular is the word! Your work is unlike any other and I'm impressed by the ever increasing degree of difficulty. I was waiting for a sun catcher photo but this is so much more satisfying! =D>

Thank you for the compliments. Those blue on white border pieces are screen printed enamels on float glass, sandblasted on the back. Its the biggest single installation I've ever attempted. Got a long way to go. Fun though.

Thanks Linn. These are for a family member's home out in Tucson.

Don- Are you taking applications for new family members?

No Marty, I have enough family to keep me busy for now. They've been great patrons over the years though. Patient with my slow output. I'm hoping to step up the pace since I retired recently but life has a way of getting in the way.

Beautiful intricate work, Don, and a few more steps up the degree-of-difficulty scale. Thanks for sharing, Jen

Thank you. Making slow progress here on the project. Two of the eventual four sections are pretty much complete. The arched sections will actually be on top, with the square panels on the bottom, in the eventual setting.

I'm running out of superlatives here, Don. Is the blue enamel R&G transparent? It's so intense, not wishy-washy at all. Is it the sandblasting on the back that contributes to the intensity? I can get reasonable results on white but on clear glass the effect is pretty blah. I don't have R&G enamels though, because of the lifetime-supply minimum quantities.

Are you sandblasting before firing so the etched glass gets a fire-polish as well? They are gorgeous whatever you're doing! Jen

Thank you for the compliments. The paint in the border pieces are a R&G transparent, I forget which number. The white glass in the border is float, blasted all over the back after all firing is complete. It does pop out pretty well, but we regret not going the extra step and using colorless antique glass or colorless float for the border. When you sandblast those glasses they scatter the light even better to an more intense white. Another thing is that the enamel is intense because it is applied very heavily with screen print. I've been doing this for a few years and haven't had any problems with it, but I bet it would be more durable if it was printed on a glass with a COE closer to that for which the enamel is designed. If this were to be an exterior glazing piece, I'd be worried about the paint crazing over time. My point is, that if you want to use enamels on clear glass like this, consider finding a colorless glass or white glass that has a higher COE.

Thank you very much for clarifying that, Don, and the advice regarding antique v float. Those borders have the sparkle and intensity of flashed glass.

WOW - really nice work Don. Some old-school stained glass people would want to string you up for mixing in fused elements,etc. "Consorting with the enemy" :lol:

Here's a piece I finished last month. It has pink striker petals fused onto the substrate, and glass paint for the rest of the imagery. The dark area at the bottom depicts Horsetooth Mountain ridge in Fort Collins.
