Image I've been looking for a way to have a flashed type of glass. Cheaper, and in my control to slump etc. High Fire enamel onto float, slumped. Engraved. These are going into a sculpture, when I get that done. Soon I hope.small.jpg

Cheaper? simpler still would be to fire regular art glass of the colour you wanted, engrave it and then rub white chalk into the engraving to give it the white accented look you desire. If you wanted to be fancy you could use coloured chalks and instead of the animals looking fire ash coloured white, they could look alive. I've also used coloured sharpie felt pens which when a Q-tip cotton swab is moistened with rubbing alcohol, you can make the colours look like water colour.

The mere time and effort in engraving means I can't go cheap enough to satisfy the local market, which is more or less non existent. Art glass by the way is very expensive here. Basically I'm doing it for me, although I might edge into the sculpture scene.

That is when you have to work with lower cost materials and just use a Dremel and diamond bit. If you are into sandblasting and shading depths of glass your cost is already too high in terms of time spent cutting stencils etc.
I'm in this book with flattened bottle and hand drawn engraving. Just one warning that my sales of flattened bottles have gone and flat lined along with the general state of the economy. At least you have zero dollars invested in materials and you are only out your time.
Might find the book cheaper elsewhere. If one bit of information is found it is worth it. Unlike a negative reviewer of the book's thinking, the information is not easily found on the internet.
