I am used to accessing the board through the new posts since you last visited link. I seem to be logged in, but I don't see this option. Am I missing something?

Yeah, that's a change with the new version of the software. I'm not sure I like it, may have to figure how to un-upgrade that part.

Apparently some programmer got too clever for his own good.

After querying the people who made the software it's apparently difficult to get back the old way of displaying the links. But I did find an extension to the software that would show all recent topics/posts at the top of the board when you visited. This isn't the same thing of course, but perhaps it would be useful. Any thoughts?

The quick links solved the problem. The trick is to teach people that this is far and away the easiest and most powerful way to read the board on a regular basis. Maybe you can put a sticky thing somewhere explaining this?

Brad,

Can you create a button elsewhere that duplicates the function?
Or maybe we have to just bookmark it.

Tony

This is what the quick link gave me: http://www.warmglass.com/phpBB3/search. ... d=newposts

I posted this and then realized we were using different ones. I've always used new posts.

I don't yet see how to reply with the previous post in your reply. They hid that somewhere, too.

So, I just found the quote icon does the reply with the post in it.

New posts are posts that are new since your last visit. (That's what I generally use.)

Unread posts are posts that you haven't read. (It would include new posts, but may have more posts than that.)

I might be able to get those as standalone links (as Tony suggests). The reason I hesitate a bit is that it would involve modifying the board code and when I update to a new version it would most likely over-write the change anyway. But I'll look into the possibility.

I like the idea of creating a sticky post that explains the various ways to read and follow the board. I think many people don't discover the little tricks that make it easier to follow the threads.

I've spent some time lately on the Facebook groups like Fused Glass Fanatics. This is a particularly irritating format. The search function is not very useful. People are so clueless, that it makes it hard to get through the fog. A thread might have 20 clueless posts and a couple of good ones. However the banter usually goes on about the clueless stuff. The more time I spend there, the more evident how powerful this format is. Here there is a critical mass of people who have a clue and offer reasonable suggestions. Over there, there is not.

Use the little " button at the upper right -- if you hover over it, it reads "reply with quotes".

I've always accessed the board with "new posts", too, so I just need to delete the old one out of my browser cache and add the new one, so I will stop getting the darned 404s :)

Sorry for the echo :) I am very much a serial reader/responder. I should change my ways :)
