Kiln Cast Crystal...same as regular Bullseye type glass ?

Post by coolntn »

I've heard the term "kiln cast crystal". Is this the same type of glass that I buy from Bullseye ? Or is it another type of glass or crystal ?

If it is differnet are there any good resources available to purchase some ? Manufacturers ?

Thanks a ton,
Russ :D

When I think of crystal I think of clarity - flawless yet soft. I think most people use the generic term crystal to refer to lead glass. Take a look at these links:

At the bottom of this page is a quick recap of glass recipes:

Definition from Iowa State:
Crystal:glass made with at least 24% lead oxide (half-lead crystal); full lead crystal, at least 30%; lead gives glass better light dispersing qualities and makes it more suitable for cutting and engraving

Good source is Olympic Color Rods; a good manufacturer is Gaffer:
