I just received from Amazon ($20.) a book entitled "Mould Making for Glass" by Angela Thwaites, copyright 2011, reprint 2012. It's a small (142 pages) softcover.
It contains a wealth of info on the subject supported with many coloured photos.. Seems to be clearly written..
I think this would be a useful addition to warm and hot glass artists reference shelf.
I've paid 3 times as much for bigger books with little useful content.
This one I recommend.
Don

If you can find it, Angela also put together a CD-ROM called "Mixing with the Best" that provided the root material for much of her book. It's basically a survey of glass casters throughout the world and the methods they use in their work. Published in 2002, but long out of print.

I've got one. I actually responded to the survey, way back when.
Tons of info . . .

If someone can find one of the out of print CDROMs, I'd love to buy one.

Lots of good info in the CD--the book is pretty much a compilation, better organized and illustrated in the book with some additional material. It's rapidly become one of my favorite glass books, and it's getting rave reviews on Amazon (by me and others):

The CD, unfortunately, is owned by the university. I contacted them some time ago about re-issuing the CD and they said they had no plans to do so. Possibly the book is the reason.

While we're on the subject of glass books, I'm also really enjoying another one, New Technologies in Glass by Vanessa Cutler. It's not quite as hands-on as Ms. Thwaite's book, and probably doesn't have as many immediate applications, but it's giving me LOTS of ideas. Dr. Cutler lectured on applying new technology to glassmaking at the last BeCON, and this book seems like an extension of her talk. She discusses the use of rapid prototyping systems, computer-controllers and waterjet cutting, bunches more.

Thanks Cynthia, I ordered Mould Making and this one http://www.amazon.com/Kiln-Forming-Glas ... pd_sim_b_3

It seemed interesting, couldn't quite decide between this and the one you recommended. Will keep your suggestion in my list for next time.

Best regards, seachange

Angela's book is great; a fairly thorough compilation and synthesis of her PhD thesis work. Lots of nuggets there. The CD is a tome to wade through that would be of interest to dedicated casters.
