I need some advice on adding Hanovia gold accents to a piece that's already been fused fully, fused again to add design elements, and is about to be slumped into a bowl shape. Since I want to add some text to the piece, I'm afraid to do the lettering at the same time as I slump. So.. my question is - do I have to go through the whole process of annealing, etc. just to mature the paint? I have a Jen-Ken with top and side elements. Thanks for any insight....
That's the perfect time to add your Hanovia gold! I always have done it on the slump firing. You do have to anneal every time you go over the strain point (pretty much every firing).
Distortion because of slumping may be a problem only if it is a steep slump...otherwise should be ok...be sure to vent the kiln (I vent to 1050 when using gold) The slump temp will be ok for the gold. good luck!
